I started out 2 years ago just doing lights for Djs/bands/school events/partys etc. and i started doing more djing about a year ago but ive been useing friends equipment/renting equipment, i have no audio equipment what so ever
(Except a some mic cables for the intels Wink ). Anyways i need any advice or suggestions on the best (ADJ)digital scratch system (2 cdplayers, mixer, and Roadcase). I had planned on buying Ps2s but since they got discontinued there hard to find and i heard they had some problems with CDRs. Right now im looking into buying The velocity, CDI-500s, or the CDI300s(CDI-300s have less features so i will prolly forget about buying them). Any suggestions, is it better to buy a velocity, evrythings all-in-one or 2 cdi 500s, Also Not to sound like a cheap ass but ill be using alot of CDRs and i have heard alot of rummers that these cd players have some problems with reading them. Anyone tell me which one is the best with CDRs Confused .
Jus looking for some advice
Thanks alot

There is also the cdi500 and qd 5 mixer deal with case for one low price. Of course there is always the deal with cd-r's and which to use. Just do a search and see if the velocity or cdi 500 come up a lot for cd-r reading problems. I use the Pro Scratch 2's so I'm not sure on that. Cool
I also have a Velocity. I bought it 12/30/2003. Haven't had any problems. I my opinion this is the best cd player American audio has made to date. The quality of the parts is much better than the new players (cdi500 and dcd1000). I think its the best rack mount player on the market. Its even better than the P*I*O*NEER CMX 3000 and 5000's.

As far as mixers go stay away from the American Audio mixers. They suck. Spend some bucks and get a P*I*Oneer, R*ane, or A*LL*EN & H*eath.
It all depends on your set up ADAMRSX. I use the QD-5 and the QMX-2. With my Pro-Scratch 2s. Those are two very good mixers. Or at least I've never had problems with mine. The QD-5 has a nice crossfader and scratching is a breeze with it. I also use PIO..gear particularly the 909 and 500. The 909 also has a really good crossfader. If you want good bang for the buck the QD-5 is the best bet for American Audio. I don't use rack mount mixers any more so I don't have hands on for 19" mixers. Cool
Thanks for all the posts, anyone else has any suggestions, id be cool. I called p.s.s.l. today to get a velocity, but they said it was discontinued Confused ??? I just got the ADJ audio catalog in the mail 4 days ago and the velocity was on the 2nd page Confused Confused , So i dono whats the deal with that but im looking into the DCD-pro 1000, it looks like this was made to replace the velocity Confused , Anyone own this player? Could tell me how it is (scratching, effects etc) and how well it works with CDRs,
Thanks alot

Check around alot of people still have them in stock. The DCD1000 is very much like the Velocity but they used much cheaper parts to build it.
ShyneeTing1000 if you are on a tight budget then American Audio decks and mixers are probably ok to get you started.

But if you are serious about learning the art of digital scratching comprehensively, then you will do yourself a favour by looking at Pios and the other more expensive brands mentioned by ADAMRSX.

Sure they are expensive but in my experience you get what you pay for.

I went through the American Audio equipment ownership phase and unfortunately was let down by the quality and reliability. I know of a few other DJs on this forum who went through the same pain and on all accounts it was an expensive lesson learned. My advice, save your money, go for the best straight up.

ROQ out.
DJ ROQ-- i plan on learning digital scratching through ADJ products cuz i am on a very tight budget, if i had the money i would straight up go for some t-e-c-h-n-i-c-s 1200s or some P-i-o-n-e-e-r CDJ1000s Wink , you say you have had problems with ADJ digital scratching, what kind of problems did u have?, i have heard mostly good things about these products except for the CDR issue.

I guess for me the biggest problem I had was the Pro Scratch 2's would get extremely hot. American Audio hooked me up though and put heat sinks in both but I still can't keep my players in thier coffins with the mixer. With the heat issue it causes the player to seize. The only fix here is time. Let the system cool and reset. Unfortunately you may not have the amount of time playing on the other cd player before it is ready to play again.
On a side note I really thought all known issues would have been noted and incorporated into a brand new larger player to allow better heat dipersion and platter size. Especially since you hear Sony has more to do with the production of these products. I really thought we would have seen something new and impoved by now. Cool
Hi Shyneeting,

I owned a Velocity and a DX5R mixer. Bought it somewhere the end of 2003 from PSSL. They work well with CD-Rs, depend pretty much on the quality of the dics and how you burn it. However, the mixer really limit the potential of this machine. Try to get a more advanced mixer. However, if you are on a shoe-string budget, these units are a good start for beginners.

I don't know at what paces you all who disaprove AA or their equipment are using the mention equipment and by mentioning the higher end brand that does the exact same thing and have simular spec in some cases which only difference seems to be in money only. Brands such as Pio, and the likes. I have own the velocity since it came to market, took it to Kuwait, during the war, and return, it has survive life in a duffle bag, bad handling, and still play like new till this day. I wonder if those brands you mention would have done the same. I was so impress with AA product that I brought the DCD 1000 for the purpose of traveling from club to club to play as a guess DJ, the DCD 1000 performed so well that the club owner that I'm now a permanent D.J. insisted that her upgrade in sound equipment include a permanent install of the DCD 1000. I just left a club and for some reason I had some technical difficulties operator enduced and the owner and staff forced me to used the house system, Nu****, cd players did not even compare to the AA equipment, Because of that experience I will no longer perform without AA either Velocity or DCD 1000.
