Although I am a newbie at DMX lighting, I’m doing a permanent install for a small live music venue and have a question. The lights will be on trusses and I am wondering if I can just leave them plugged in and powered on. I’m thinking they will just be on stand by without a DMX signal. On each truss will be 3 ADJ Mega Hex Pars and one Pocket Pro. This club has live music 3 nights a week. I will turn off the controller. thanks in advance

Hi, I would actually recommend using one or a few of these to handle main power control. https://obsidiancontrol.com/rp2 wordle
This way the fixtures aren't all running 24/7.
you would just DMX command them to power off, then turn off the console and everything's life span just went up by saving the fan from running.

Leaving lights unattended and powered on may present a slight fire hazard if a malfunction were to occur. Although the risk is generally low, it's a good practice to have fire safety measures in place, such as proper fire extinguishers and smoke detectors.

I have to agree it is best to power down electrical equipment when not in use. Even though the LEDs may not be taking power the circuit boards will remain powered. Any electrical surges or losses could result in damaged equipment. So yeah - I am a solid power down your rig, including fixtures, when not in use. This will increase the life of the lighting rig.

Is there a more affordable option than RP2 that would enable me to instruct them to power off and save the fan from running?

As long as the lights are designed for continuous operation and safely installed, I think that leaving DMX lighting powered on is standard practice. Just take care with wiring and heat.
