I'd try it but it requires too much set-up .
Are you sure you don't have the fader set to do too long of a cross-fade between scenes? This isn't instant, it does take a tiny bit to change scenes. For example, let's say you assign a Par38 on each of the 4 channels of a dimmer pack, and you use them as channels 1-4 respectively. Move fader 1 up all the way, and notice there is a tiny delay. Now, bring down fader one WHILE bringing up Fader 2, and notice it isn't so instant? Repeat with 3 and 4. Same deal.
If you need such tight programming, you can still do your sequence as you want it to hit, then off-set the lighting channel by the appropriate amount of clocks and you'll be fine. Always program 2 empty measures to the beginning of each sequence. I do this for syncronization issues for audio post, but the same mentality applies. MIDI will be fine, but you'll need to slip and slide the scenes to fit. Once you get the first few done at tempo, you'll know what needs to be done. Also, keep in mind film and video practices, where if you can be within 1/8'th of a second, you'll be fine, and LEAD with the lights, it's easier to handle that than with a post-triggered effect. It sets better with the brain.
