OK, I'm actively programing MyDMX right now, mainly since I am killing time and neglecting something else at the moment(a video project I have to deliver 30 copies of, don't worry, it's not an issue. I have a robot that does the burning and printing so it's all good)
So, I'm in EDITOR mode. Here is my situation. I'm programming new spiffy scenes for the DJ's to use/abuse for my event at the end of August. Right now, I'm having my 64 LED Pros flash back and forth, evens then odds. 4 on, then the other 4 on. 2 trees, 4 lights each.
My source is my plain washes. I've copied those and are working off of that. Those scenes are a 2-second fade to SOLID on that color, then holds forever.
Taking RED as an example, I have as stated 8 64 LED Pros. Step 1 is changed to a fade time of .52 seconds and a hold of .52 seconds. Step 2 is set the same. The only difference is that in Step 1, Lights 1,3,5,7 are ON(dimmer at 100%) nd in Step 2, 2,4,6,8 are ON(dimmer 100%). According to the 3D Visualizer, this is doing exactly what I want and I'm quite happy.
I made Step 2 by copying Step 1(before modifications). I then went to do the same thing in the next color, which was GREEN. I say that the clipboard icon was lit up, so what the heck, let's see what might be in there. Step 1 from RED. Cool.
Well, cool isn't the right term, but let's just say I have some new applications for that.
Now, check it, this stuff gets even better. I'm so excited, as I just found this out because it occured to me while I was working on the BLUE scene(which after Red and green makes perfect sense). I copied BOTH steps in the BLUE and COPIED them into the BLUE scene. To make sure this wasn't some fluke, I copied the two steps from the green scene and pasted them into the blue scene. It worked perfectly.
How do you select multiple steps? Using the shift button or option to select multiple steps. Option can let you select non-consecutive steps, while shift is better for ranges. This same tactic can be used to delete too, just make sure you select the appropriate button!
This is tremendous news, even if it contradicts other stuff I may have previously said. Hey, sometimes it's good to be wrong. I don't mind admitting I was wrong. I had previously said that the copy/paste was extremely limited. While it is still extremely limited, it is not as limited as I suspected. I think I said you can't copy/paste steps between scenes, and that is absolutely an incorrect statement that I said.
Making complex shows just got EASIER!!!!! OH yeah!! You can do "master scene" list, then draw from that to build scenes with multiple steps per song. Don't forget your save as.
Imagine:
Let's say I want to do my silly little back and forth thing with blue, then followed by my counter-rotating movers using pink with wash in pink(6 steps), followed by blue wash with movers showing spinning vortex gobos. I don't have to define next, I just have to copy and paste. I may have to adjust some hold and fade times, but other than that, I'm good.
I still recommend pencil and paper. If anything, maintain a list of steps used and what they are from so when you're doing editing later you can save a bit of grief trying to stay organized.
Copying scenes in a group is unfortunately NOT supportes as I can not find a way to select multiple scenes. This is a bit of a pain since I have my wash group, which is 16 scenes. So, that's a bit annoying. I can live with that, that's not so labor intensive. It is annoying, but I can deal with that.
Well, back to "work". After I get done with my BACK AND FORTH thing, I have to do a "marching" pattern. Wait, I gotta do that three times. Left to right, right to left, then back and forth.
I would like to offer a suggestion:
In the EDIT window, I'd like to request that ADJ add a new option: A different color SCENE name. This way, when you're in USER mode, instead of seeing a sea of blue buttons, you can have a yellow or a red or something like that STICK OUT.
Hear my logic out:
I am using my BLACKOUT scene with an ALL CAPS name as a placeholder to tell me "What is in this next block". This is by far not the best method of doing this, but was the best I could come up with. For example, in my BACK and FORTH thing I am working on, I have the blackout scene named BACK FORTH so I know. I'll have another for MARCH L-R and another MARCH R-L and a MARCH BACK FORTH. And under that, will be, well, what it says will be next, just in different colors.
I got more issues to work out. Fortunately, I have time for that. Who knows, maybe I am wasting my time and the FX Generator does all this crap for me. At least I know what I want to do. I may play with it later on.
Lighting is fun again. I'll go edit video later. I got plenty of time!
