TRUSS HELP

What I would do is try to find one 15' piece of truss, or maybe two 8' pieces (more practical). When you have short pieces and you hook them together like that, each one of those places where they join together gets weaker and weaker. I'm not even really sure how you would mount truss to a T-stand. There are special stand adapters made for holding truss, and they sort of attach to it to make sure it doesn't slide off.

Just keep in mind that an 8' section of truss probably wouldn't fit in your average car, much less two of them I'd try to find some other solution tho, besides (3) 5' pieces.

Van man that would be very weak for the amount that you wanna put on there.

you will need stronger stands but adjs truss is good just they don'y make stronge enough stands.

A trick to add ambiance to the atmosphere is to put pars with blue and green gels at the bottom of the truss shooting upwards. Cheep but sweet effect if its vertical standalone truss. Also if your running a big light show like that, make sure you have sufficent power. Dont want to blow thousands of dollars worth of lighting.

Sweet set-up Drew! I like the upward pars too but if you have a black ceiling or very low ceiling, the effect can get lost. Are you using fog or haze?? And just out of curiosity, how many circuits are you using to drive all those intels??

In that last pic i have no clue. but yes your right it can get lost, but if its in the center of the truss and its a fairly lagre room most of the time it looks sweet. Yes i use fog most of the time, but not very much. just enough to bring out the intels.

I would really like to see the pics of the truss setups mentioned on the posts above. However, the inserted image does not seem to be working for me. I have even tried coming into the forum using three different browsers. Any ideas?

trusses take up SO MUCH SPACE during transportation..id go with a few tripods with t's on the top...ull thank me for this in the future...how dou expect to haul around a 10 foo tress on the roof??? been there done it...payed for a windsheild when it fell off...hahaha

if you are going to use box truss...

they are very heavy and big to transfer,
need strong supports if lifted up by single bar truss on each side,
longer the truss=more support beams,
last, HAVE FUN!

Box truss is not heavy. I have 2 5" sections of closed end, 1" box truss that when bolted together, my wife can lift it with one hand.

Although using a truss takes up space when transporting (amen to deej__millz) ... it is well woth it. I have a 10 foot truss that breaks into (2) 5 foot sections. Hovever I leave the 2 halves combined during transport to save set-up time. How???

Without going into detail, I took some measurements of a floor demo (truss) setup before I bought my 10' truss system. With the additional t-collars (on the truss) the overall "truss" length was 10 feet & 1 inch. My 1996 Dodge Cara"van" will successfully engulf the truss with an inch to spare (I have to load it up to and just barely under the passengers dashboard). The lesson??

While everone might not have a vehicle that will enclose a truss, you might get lucky and be able to take one along. I didn't believe it until I did the math. My initial measurements proved that I could cutdown the hassle of joining the 5' halves together (most of time by my self).

It really has added more profe$$ionali$m to my setup and looks good when DJing or impre$$ing a pro$pective client when gigging (hint).

I got my 12' truss in a 96' Aerostar by letting the passenger seat all the way back and having one end at the bottom of the windshield and the other end supported by equip in the back. It just fit and since it could not move more than an inch, it couldn't slam into the windshield during a sudden stop.
I am thinking about using stands with T for any more lights. From my short experience I have found that you buy the biggest and strongest stand for stability. It will pay off in the long run.
