Hello!  I'm using a MyDMX3 device on Mac.  I have a setup that works on an older MacBook and old OS.  I also have access to other more recent Macs, and could probably also get a Windows computer if requiered.

What is not clear, is what OS version is compatible with which MyDMX3 software version.  There are two official versions of the software available on the website (why offer two versions in the first place?) and a more recent one, probably Beta, that was sent to me.  When checking the app file infos, no version number appears, confusing me even more!  A pdf Specs sheet is on the website, stating that MacOS Yosemite is supported, but it's 10 years old OS!  Anything newer tested and approved?

So can anybody list the supported MacOS versions supported (from oldest to newest) for each of the three MyDMX3 app versions available?  What about M-processor Macs support?  Is the current app is even 64 bits?  Timeline for device support in the coming months/years?  Presently, the impression I'm getting is the device is somewhat abandonned by ADJ!

Thanks!

I am using MyDMX 3.0. Do I need to switch to MyDmx 5. If so where do I find the software and can I import my shows from MYdmx 3.0. Last question is whether I would need to change the licence on my dongle?

Hi! you can simply go to store.dmxsoft.com and log in and purchase a software licenses to use 5.0 on your 3.0 box. Just be sure you purchase the license that has all of the features you need (EXPRESS vs. FULL)
you should be able to open your saved .DVC 3.0 files and use them in 5.0, but you will have more features and set up options so maybe also start a fresh file and see how you like it as well.
The software can be download as always from the 5.0 product page on our website.
Hope this helps.

thank you. If I upgrade to 5 will my 3.0 no longer work. I have a gig the next two weekends and don't want to find I can't run my light show. Also I run one universe and probably 150 channels at most. I also use a DAW to trigger the lights from my Studio One tracks. Will express do what I need and if not how do I see the difference between full and express and how can I find what I have currently. Finally is there  a place to see what new things are within 5?

It may be good timing as i am redoing how I did my shows and so starting fresh may work . Currently I set a song with steps trigger it to start and time the step changes manually once I figure how much time elapses for 4 bars and then do the math. A bit tricky but works. I want to change to setting up scenes and fixtures for more exact control. Thanks as always as your quick response and advice is always very appreciated.

Hello, no it will not affect your 3.0 licenses as you can have multiple licenses tied to the same device, just don't try to run both programs at the same time on the same computer obviously and all should be good.
For a DAW MIDI trigger you will need the FULL version as EXPRESS does not come with MIDI functionality.
Everything new in 5.0 is listed on the product page for its description: https://www.adj.com/mydmx-5

thank you. So given I can run either 3.0 or 5 off MYdmx 3.0 dongle then I guess if I get it I can still run my shows on 3.0 while learning the new software. I have also been looking for tutorials on programming scenes with multiple fixtures and techniques but have a hard time finding. Anything you might be able to point to would be great. thanks again.

To add I ran and told defender to allow but it the got blocked by Norton at 70% of component install 4 of 7. Tried disabling Nortons Protection and Firewall but same block happened at same spot. Something about "Data Protection" in the install that Norton flags as High and will not allow through even with protection and firewall off.

Hi hoffco, sorry for the delay on this, i was waiting for the dev team to take a look at your post.
so with firewall and norton disabled you still get a pop up or warning? I do know on windows it is normal to get the winds pop up and then you just click more info and select run anyway, have you don that?
Also if you want give this new release of 5.0.5 a shot.

So it will run up to about 79% of installing components and then Norton pops up with a "Data Protection Block" as it feels like it is going to change some data it should not. I have run it on two windows computers running Norton 360 and same thing on both. There is a way to disable that block but I always worry when it does not like software. Also wondering how much better 5 is then 3 and whether there is any tutorial for 5 I can watch. I will try the new download release you sent (thank you) and let you know if that is any different.

Honestly speaking, I've been doing software support for over ten years and about 4 years ago I dropped Norton AV products because they weren't that good anymore, always blocking harmless stuff like some random components in our software programs when there is 0 cause for concern. I would encourage anyone using norton to do the same.
There's is absolutely nothing shady or virus or spyware like inside out programs, there's no reason they should be blocked at all by any AV program.
