I just bought a unit from Guitar Center, got it out, plugged it in and it fryed on the spot. What's the best solution? I plan to call Guitar Center when they open but thought I would get some advice here as well.

So you plugged the USB cable into your computer and the interface did what exactly to make you think it fried? What all was hooked up to the my dmx dongle and your pc? This is an extremely rare thing to occur.

It began to smoke so I unplugged it immediately. I have since called Guitar Center and am taking back to them tomorrow. I will let you know what they say.
you can tell me some of the details that I asked about. Like how you had it hooked up etc.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Guitar Center did take the unit back and didn't have one and said I could order it, which I do want to do.
Here's what happened. I plugged the usb dmx box into the laptop. IT was recognized by the laptop. I have approximately 15 lights set up for our CLC at the church that I currently run on a standard 16 channel board. When I unplugged the 3 pin cable from that board and plugged into the dmx it began to smolder. I immediately unplugged it but it was too late.
One other thing, mu cable had a female end on it and I had to use an adapter (male/male) to get it o plug in.

If you had to use an adapter to get the 3 pin XLR to plug into the my dmx interface that means you were running dmx input to the output. You should not have needed an adapter the other side of that cable should have worked. This was not a faulty unit, you fried it out by running the wrong end of the cable into it.
