question about equipment i saw

so i was at a club lasat night and i took a peek at the DJ set up and maybe this is common but ive never seen it before cause im new to the whole DJ scene but it looked like a regular vinyle setup but they were linked to his labtop that was running some DJ program which he was loading the songs on that played through the vinyle. he could still scacth and everything. I was just wondering what that whole setup is called and the computer program and where to find it. thanks
