im new to the whole lighting systems thing and im looking for a scanner set for my mobile dj company and just wanted to know some expert opinions on the concept 2...
in my honest opinion i would not buy the concept 2 or 1. to me they are just not a good fixture. for mobile use i would say the scan tron 250 cause u can change it from scanner to color changer! i personally own a performance scan but would not reccommend it for mobile use. go with the scan tron 250 or even a deluxe scan! take another look on the intel site. just my 2 cents. peace jingles! and welcome to the forum!
Jingles, you told the performance scan would be good mobile. Oh well, here's my 2 pennies: The DJ Scan 250hp is great for mobile use. It only weighs 11 lbs. Also, check out the Fusion Scan, I just got 2 of these in and they rock. They have a built in green laser that can really change up your look. Oh yeah, ADJ has discontinued the COncept 1 and 2 so that should tell you something
did I? whoops! but it is still nonetheless a GOOD fixture. it is heavy but worth it if u r gonna spend the money for it. so dj butter STILL get the perf. scan! trust me on this! and i too had heard that the concept's were gonna be disc. but wasn't 100 percent sure! looks like nobody got the "CONCEPT!" jingles out!
As long as the stores still have them, you can buy them. Once they run out, there will be no more available. I got this info from ADJ directly (I'm a dealer and wanted some but they were already discontinued). Be a big baller and get the Accu Scan! Its just a little more expensive
Is it the better the controller the better the effects or is it the other way around the better the scanner the better the effects? also do i need a special controller to use the scanners as spot lights or can i use any controller?
actually it is a little of both! the better the controller the more u can do with it and the better the light i.e. the more channels u have the more options u have for controlling it! u don't need anything special in my opinion. if u want u can get a controller with a joy stick to control the pan/tilt channels better and easily then go ahead and buy it! i have the elation dmx operator 192 with joystick and it is a nice starter controller! so to make this simple the more channels a light has the more functions and programming options u can do with it. the better the controller the more u can program and create your own looks! jingles out! any more questions just ask!
a couple places. try www.rosco.com and www.internetapollo.com they are nice places. but when u order them make sure u get the right sizes or u are gonna have to buy again! on the apollo one check out the spiral leaf. it ismy favorite gobo. but i don't have it YET! jingles out!
u mean spot? yeah sure there is always a spot feature(open slot on gobo wheel) on any light u get! at least i hope so. do u have the accu scans or spots?
I got the accu scans and i haven't even used them yet but my other question would be how much tilt and pan can i get from the accu scans, so i can get the most range into the floor or even maybe some walls if its possible or do they have to be directly on top of the area of usage? In other words are they reccomendable for mobile use?
The accu scans give you 180 degrees of pan, and 45 degrees of tilt. You can mount them however you like. They do have a nice 19 degree beam angle, so you get the most 'coverage' when the fixture cannot be mounted up very high.
As for mounting them, you can put them wherever you'd like. They do not have to be directly above where they are to be used, although they could be if you wanted them to be. Depending on the angle that you mount it, you will get various amounts of coverage.
The typical mounting angles for scanners essentially allow for coverage just about anywhere in front or to the sides of the fixture, and no coverage behind where the are mounted. If they are mounted up very high and horizontally, you can get just about full room coverage.
Scanners can make for more 'one sided' show that is played out from one part of the room (ie: mounted on truss against a wall, playing out into the room). Watch the movie of these lights to see a typical mounting angle and how they look. Moving heads give you more coverage (pan and tilt wise) compared to scanners, but have more moving parts and typically cost more.
As for mobile applications, I wouldn't really know, but by the looks of things, they aren't super big, and only weigh 30 pounds a piece. That isn't too bad at all given their features.
Can you tell me if you can change the gobos / color wheels and how to do this? Can you change individual gobos or do u have to change the whole wheel(s)?
Does anyone have any scenes / shows / chases that they've setup or configured for the DMX operator pro (with 4 DJ Scan 250 HP's) that they'd like to share?
sorry but i don't have any scenes i can share with u. i use a dmx operator 192 (non pro) and i also use compuware. also if u want new gobo's it would be easirer to buy a new better scanner cause u would have to take the whole light apart to change the gobo wheel and that will void ur warranty. to me it is not worth it. my two watts.
Thanks Jingles. How do you like Compuware? Is it easy? What does it allow you to do or not do? Can you use it on a machine that is also running the music or must it be a dedicated machine?
