I see a lot of videos on YouTube with moving heads...the light beams are always in "opposite" sync...meaning when one throws a beam to the left, the other throws one to the right creating a nice beam intersecting effect.

Is there an easy way to do this? LIke only program 1 light and then program the other to do the opposite? Or is it a matter of taking the time to program and tweak each light 1 by 1.

Also, lets say I wanted to have multiple dmx lights (the same model) do the same exact thing...in myDMX would I have to set up, say, all 10 of them? Or can I just set up 1, and assign the same dipswitch to all?

DJvice, Welcome to the forums.
the opposite effect your referring too is called pan or tilt inversion or invert pan and tilt. This is a setting that would have to be built into the fixture itself. However most moving heads and scanners should have this function. I have no way of confirming this for your specific lights as you did not mention them.
I would recommend that you individually address all 10 of your lights in my dmx. This way you have more flexibility for programming your fixtures. To have all 10 fixtures do the same thing all you simply need to do is hold down the shift key. So click on the channel fader for a function of your light say for example the color wheel. Click on the color wheel fader. Then hold down the shift key, While you move the fader while holding down shift you should notice that all like fixtures color wheel channels are responding to the same command as the one your mouse is on. Let me know if you need more help.
Sincerely,
Hey djvice,
There is actually another way to do it through mydmx. What you have to do is open the fx generator. In the fx generator there is a tab for Pan/Tilt effects. In this tab you could program your moving heads to run a nice program for you. Either Circles, Lines, Random Points etc. There is also a Phasing slider/fader. What this Phasing slider/fader does is sets your lights Either zero for all in-sync moves, or any where on there for different times.

So say if you have 2 identical moving heads that you would like to have them do identical moves but totally in different directions. What you would have to do is set the Phasing Slider to 50. What that means is when one points left the other will point right. Same thing for up and down.
The integrated feature is actually for all control modes. Either through DMX, Master-Slave, Sound.

How the tilt inversion works on most lights is like this: (Normal) 0% or 000 equals down, 100% or 255 equals up; (Inverted) 0% or 000 equals up, and 100% or 255 equals down.

Normally inversion is good for two lights on opposite sides of either a truss or floor placement to have the beams intersect easier with control.

But this feature just depends all on how you set up your programming for the lights. On a small board like the Chauvet DMX-70 it works really well when you invert pan and tilt and the two fixtures share the same address. But on the American DJ myDMX it works well when you have it on separate channels. Like I said it really depends on how you set up your light rig.

myMDX is really an excellent tool for beginners, it is really easy to use for the most part. But if you want better features I would suggest looking at the Elation Compu line. I heard that it is beast.
