Hello guys !
My name is Travis and I'm new to this forum.

I need some suggestions.
I am a drummer in a local band, and we need some lighting.
my lead guitar player and I have been looking at the fallowing lites, 4 lites of each:

4-Elation Active Scan 250's
4-American DJ Accu Spot 250's
4-American DJ Accu Wash 250's

We want to start out with these, and will ad more later in the future.

We currently have 2-low lying fog machines, 2 American DJ 800 Watt strobes.

Also Looking for 2 good DMX Controlled- Smoke Vapor machines for lighting effects.

We love moving Head Lites and we are greatly inspired by Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Lite show that they design, and we want to choreograph a different lite show for each of our songs on cue.

And also we have been looking at Computer software for designing our lighting designs, but can any one suggest a controller for what we are wanting to do that will work with these lites ?

Now here is the deal, My lead guitarist is also a local DJ, and we want to use these same lites for his DJ shows as a side project.
Can any one tell me if these moving head lites work well for live concerts and DJ shows ?
And also, we are wanting moving heads that strobe, dim, and have rotating gobo's.
we would like to stay in the price range of the Accu Spot 250's and the Accu Wash 250's, so if there are better moving heads "Different brand" that do better than the American DJ moving heads in the same price range please feel free to email me at parks@saw.net since other brands are not aloud to be mentioned on here, and I respect that.

Need some recommendations on some Par Cans also.

Thank you for any info. and input that any one has.

Travis

8 Moving yokes and 4 scanners is going to be a pretty large investment. If you have the money, more power to you. Are tou going to use all of that as back lighting or are you going to take some fixtures and use them as front lighting? My suggestion is to buy 8 pars and 2 dimmer packs to run a simple 4 color front band wash so you can dedicate all your moving lights to effect lighting.

Are you going to buy trussing or stands to put your lights on or are you going to do the whole "moving head on top of the guitar cabinet thing"?

Choreographing lights to music takes a long long time and each venue you need to tweak your cues to suit the various stages. Your software needs to be able to keep up with the changing needs of the venue and music styles. I use M@rtin Light Jockey, you can do some pretty complex things with this program. Editing is pretty easy as well.

My suggestion is to cut out the scanners, spend a little more on your moving yokes. Look at the Elation Power spot 250 and power wash 250. Slightly nicer, more effects, etc.

To make this system look good you need 30 feet of truss and 2 nice 15 foot crank lifts. Mount 6 moving lights and strobes on that and put 2 moving lights left and right of the drum riser. Buy a large backdrop to hang on your truss. Buy 8 500 watt wide pars with some cool colors, mount 4 far downstage left and right for front lighting and you are done. Ready to bring the rock!
