Anyone familiar with how to create lightning with Washers and Pars? I am quite new in the world of MDX but I think I know my way in Mydmx 2.0 Smiler
I realize it's probably not an easy-to-answer question but I can't find the right combination of strobe and colors.
The use is for a play (musical) which has a scene whit a sort of thunderstorm. So there has to be lightning.
I have 6 washers (Showtec LED 25 wash) in front of the stage and 20 pars (Showtec 56 LED short) above, aside and behind the stage.
Ideas anyone?

If you're looking for an evening thunder I assume. You want to wash in a dark blue, between 118 and 140, depending on how many pars you are running. Then choose pars on the outside of your truss that are pointing more center stage, not a huge number, maybe 6 of your Showtec LEDs, and set their strobe values to all different, values, all around the same level, within 50 high and low. Then create multiple steps where you change the level of strobe for each instrument.

Say fixture one is one of your lighting elements, I would set a scene where fixture one was at 115, for one second, then 185 for one second, then 145 for one second then 200 for one second, etc. That way it feels more organic. You might also switch which fixtures strobe between steps.

For something more in depth, at a small venue I do lighting for a particular band. They have a song about a storm. This is a small room, with 8 MBT Par 64 LED cans. One of my lighting effects is a color scroll through different shades of blue slowly, while the 2 outermost Instruments Strobe in my described pattern, the speed changing between every step.

Hope this helps,

Fort Conspiracy
