I am still getting amiliar with things like crossovers and EQs. I would just like to know how they are all set up. So i am going to give you the list of the gear i am looking at purchasing and can you tell me in which order you would set it up. What i mean by that is the way it will al be run, so what needs to be plugged into what.
Here is the list
2x 18 inch sub woofers
2x 15 inch top end speakers
2x amplifiers
1x crosser over
1x EQ
1x mixing desk
if you could please tell me what runs into what, it would really help
thanks

It goes kind of like this......
....................................>>>lower powered amp>>>>2 15" tops
....................................^
....................................^
....................................^
Mixer>>>>EQ>>>>>Crossover
....................................v
....................................v
....................................v
.................................... >>>Higher powered amp bridged mono>>>>>2 Subs

You don't always use the higher powered amp for subs, it's just more of a typical setup.
I have basically the same hardware except for the crossover because my V5000 & V4000 already have the sub crossovers built in. And I don't always use the EQ in the equation.

Sorry Stevie Ray let me simplify that diagram....too many dots - head hurts!!!

Mixer > Eq > 1st Amp > 15" tops

Mixer > Crossover > 2nd Amp > 18" subs

You don't necessarily need to put the EQ in line with the crossover to run the subs. So long as the crossover is set to the right low freq setting to match the subs range you should be ok. Besides having the eq in line with the crossover will cancel the crossovers effectiveness making for lower level output to the subs. This of course depends on how you tweak it.

Make sure you use the more poweful amp to run the subs because they need more juice than the tops, providing they are different.

Most mixers have more than 2 outputs, for the subs you can patch into either the zone #2 out or rec out and use the main output for your tops or just use 'y' adapters from the main out RCA connectors to split the signal into two.

Bear in mind your hardware will be different to mine so the config may vary, suffice to say what works for me may not necessarily work for you.

I suggest you experiment with your system ensuring you can get the most out of it before you get to the gig.

I hope this makes sense. Good luck man.

ROQ out.
2 Points.

1) The way I diagrammed theCrossover going to both amps serves the purpose, of removing the low frequencies that are handled by the sub from going to the tops. This makes the system more efficient, because the top amp won't be wasting watts, by not reproducing a frequency that the tops can't handle anyway.
2) Your advice on using the record outs could work, but is not recommended, because on most mixers, the record out is independent of the master fader. It is only controlled by the channel faders. Thus meaning that if you are playing something on channel 1, with the channel 1 fader on 9 and the master on 1. The sub will still put out the same amount of power as it would if channel 1 is on 9, and the master fader was on 10. It could give you an uneven sound, depending on the situation.
