I'm a bit angry. First, I'm dealing with an issue regarding my Chauvet Q-Spot150's, which is a Chauvet issue. But, that issue was resolved: Turn fixture around, set P5-Y and then all goes properly.

While working on this problem, having the lights set up next to me and my Korg nanoKONTROL on the included long USB cable really made troubleshooting a breeze, or at least saved a bunch of time.

What was the problem with the Q-Spot 150? Simple, it rotates backwards than what MyDMX shows. The main point is that with a little time and patience, I was able to correct the issue so I'm quite literally on the same page as the 3D Visualiser.

Now, onto the mini-RANT. Prior to my SHFF(Sacramento Horror Film Festival), I had to redo how my Korg nanoKontrol is configured with MyDMX because MyDMX lost all my MIDI configurations. This isn't the first time this has happened, and no doubt won't be the last.

During my last re-setting, I documented what I was using the knobs and faders for. Ah, time savings!

Today, while dealing with the Q-Spot 150 problem, MyDMX stopped responding to the MIDI commands coming from the Korg nanoKONTROL. I quit MyDMX and went back in, no better. Upon quitting, I got the esa.exe crap-out error. Rebooted: again, no better. Checking my Sound an Audio Devices control panel showed the NanoKontrol working properly.

GRRRR!! I found my cheat-sheet and quickly got things going again.

Folks, please take the time to document your configurations in regards to MIDI. Not just triggers but ALSO any sort of fader control. Keep this stuff handy and readily available for events. I would suggest a "show binder" or folder, with printed sheets in plastic film sheet protectors for added durability and protection. This could be the one thing that saves your butt at an event, especially if you rely on an outside bit of gear.

In my case, I was lucky, this happened at home in the family room, but it could just as easily happen at a gig.

The developers really need to properly implement MIDI into the product. Right now, that is a major shortcoming in the product that needs to be addressed. This isn't an upgrade, it's making the product properly work with what the product claims to integrate.

The part I really don't like is that I am unable to replicate the failure so I can report something a bit more tangible outside of "it simply stopped working".

So, document. Your back-up solution can be your life saver.
