I am starting to use DMX3, getting away from small 12 channel controller. Do I need a second universe to control the front lights without affecting the rear lights. IE dimming the front without affecting the rear. or shutting some front lights on the go to create a central spot, or do I have to create all these possible scenes in advance?

Hello, glad to see you are using MyDMX 3.
you don't need another universe for front lights as long as you aren't running out of free channels to patch lights, you just need maybe a DMX splitter. But you can program groups of scenes in MyDMX 3 and each group can be triggered individually from each other. Watch my start guide to programming on MyDMX 3.

You can purchase another MyDMX 3 interface and use both to get two universes.
