Hello,

I'm completely new to this website and to this lighting world so please bare with me. I need to buy some lights to up-light a big room, but I have no idea what to get. I need some lights that can be on for 8 hours without burning up, I would prefer LED vs a hot lamp that may burn the curtains, something nice to have would be a simple control board through which I can change the color of the lights. I'm thinking I need around 15 lights. Do I need a power supply of some sort? Special cables? Cooling accessories? Budget is a concideration. I'm new at this so I don't want to go for the Ferrari first. Can someone help me put together a list of things I need, brands, model numbers?

By the way this lighting is completely unrelated to the music. I do not need it to pulse or to flash or nothing like that. This will be strictly for up-lighting a hall for the durations of the event.

Thank you in advance

jingles,

Thanks for your reply. The size of the room will vary. See I want to start setting this up for weddings and events like that. So the size could vary from 2000 sq ft to 4000 sq ft, or maybe some outdoor area.

I haven't really calculated a budget mainly because I have no idea what to get and if I create a budget it might be unrealistic. I guess I wouldn't like to spend more than 2 or 3K to start. Maybe I have cut down the number of lights I want to get. So maybe 6 lights and a control board.

How much power do these babies suck? I certainly don't want to blow the breakers and ruin the whole event.

Oh and those that you suggested look good, but I feel that by being long like that it will change the color of the whole wall vs. adding an accent color. You know what I mean?
ok then check out the adj P36 LED CANS Those are nice and i own one. good throw and nice colors. oh and by the way leds take very little power out of your breakers. so for 1 p36 led can ur looking at i would say no more than 40 watts total.
also here is a lil tip for figuring out power. w/v=a (watts divided by volts equals amps) you wil generaly have in most cases 120 volt outlets. so say u have 3 p36 leds at 40 watts each for a total of 120 watts you divide that by 120 and u get 1 amp of power used generally out of a 15 or 20 amp circuit. hope this helps! if u have anymore ?'s just ask. peace! jingles Smiler

that sounds like a nice option. How high do you think that light will reach? Some of these ballrooms have 30 feet cealings. What kinds of cables do I need to run these? Can you recommend a simple control board that can control all these lights so I can output whatever color the customer asks for?

thank you very much for answering my many questions.
well those 64b's look sweet but they are twice as much as the p36s. Do you think the difference is worth it? Also the price there is retail? Does that mean that's what they cost everywhere or they are cheaper at one of their dealers? Also can they be controlled individually if I don't decide to get a control board right now? In other words could I set them all up to a desired combination of RGB without a control board?

Thanks for answering all these questions.
yes all the prices are retail. i would just try to contact an adj/elation dealer and discuss some prices with them and im sure they can give u a decent price. and also yes the p36's can be controlled via the dip switches u can flip on certain numbers of the dip switches to mi certain colors. this is covered in the manual. so to answer your question yes u can set em all up without a control board. however depending on how many u get get all u really might need is a dimmer board like the stage setter or something. peace! jingles! p.s. how many were u looking to get?
