okay i have another problem guys.....if i connect a pair of speakers in series to get a total of 1000w@8 ohms.....having one speaker rated 600w@4ohms and the other at 400w@4ohms will they operate properly??.....i mean will the 400w speaker distort when playin at a loud volumes and wont max out the 1000w?? or will everything level out??.....or is this suicide???.....should i not hook the speaker up like this???.....need help before i blow my speakers!!!!(if thats the case)....

Technically that is ok, once you hook up your speakers in series they're meant to act as one provided your amp can drive 1000 watts at 8ohms "RMS" and even that's borderline with no overhead.

Sounds like from all your "experiments" you've posted in the past your are trying build your own Frankenstein there - may I suggest you keep your speaker combinations/setup simple and easy to troubleshoot. Good luck.

ROQ out.
wheww...lol...thanx man....u know....putting together a reliable system with limited cash to spend is quite hard....so im just trying to get the best i can with the money i have....but now with all that cleared up i guess i can finally enjoy the music and hopefully not get any complaints from neighbors....lol....and yeah my setup is fairly simple....four subs, four mains, powered monitor two amps and eq's ....and to finish it off....i hopefully will be gettin my ps1's this weekend from J@CK@$$ who said he's going to lower the price by $50 Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin ....lol....i would wait and get ps2's but i thought i'd learn to walk first....plus my old "other name brand decks" are getting boring...and this way i'll be looking forward to something new....(getting ps2's) and then hopefully ps3's(if there is going to be a ps3)....eh i dont know...lol....i'd just like to experience using all of them.....but thanx once again....
HI Dj Fobster

Connecting those speakers in series will mean that if one speaker blows then neither of the two cabinets will play. Do you really want to deal with that??

Second a chain is as strong as its weakest link. That being said, your setup will only be as good as the worst woofer you have in your box (since that will be the first woofer to blow, then your cabinets just wont play and you have to troubleshoot).

Third, if you hook up 2 8ohm woofers in parallel in the same cabinet and one is 300W and the other is 400W then you will have no problem. If one speaker blows then the other will still play. If one speaker blows then the amp will see an impedance of 4ohms instead of 8.

Post any other questions you may have, and I'll try and answer em. Lata
hhhmmm...interesting... now about capacitors.... they say if u put one in front of a speaker.... the amp wont see an ohm load....can u go to radioshack and pick up any 'ol cap or does it have to be a specific kind??.... and one more thing .....how come speakers(not all) that are example rated at 500w...consists of 2 woofers 250w each and a horn that is 100w.... wouldnt that equal out to 600w all together??... or do they just use the total power of the woofers??
So many questions so little time Wink
hhhmmm...interesting... now about capacitors.... they say if u put one in front of a speaker....
** What you are doing is making a simple 6dB Xover. Don't try this at home it would screw up the sound if your using a brand speaker with xover built in

the amp wont see an ohm load....
** Well it still see's a load but only in the frequency that's passing through the capacitor
can u go to radioshack and pick up any 'ol cap or does it have to be a specific kind??
** Bipolar Capacitors are used in Xovers

**When you use a Xover it splits the power as well as the frequency. So most of the power is still going to the Woofers and only a little goes to the highs as they are more effecient than woofers. Read up on speaker design basics and you should understand a little more.
