I have multiple problems. One is simply I need more and brighter lights. That's just a matter of money. That brings up a whole other issue for some other forum!
The direct calls for some dark wash scenes, which then results in complaints that "it's not bright enough" or "it's too dark". Yet, the color is, well, for lack of a better term, perfect. Two things: she picks the colors, and honestly, they end up looking great, but they are just too dark.
Fortunately, she's chosen some lighter replacement colors, and while that resolves the issue, it makes me wonder:
What if I really do need to use that dark color, and even assuming I get more and brighter lights, is that really going to make the scene "brighter", even with the same dark color?
I know we've talked about adding more lights before, and that's helped, but now I'm thinking outside the box and sticking with dark colors.
My cure so far has been to have a follow spot put a white spot on there that I'll run anywhere frmo 60-85%(best guess). I like this because it does add some depth and contrast.
Any other thoughts? The spot op ain't going anywhere and I need the spot on the scene anyways. Maybe some PRofile Panels in each zone shooting some white light into the zone?
