Error

Did you get any sort of crash report to mail out? Look in your my dmx folder and see if you have any file named crash report. Should be a .dmp file.

No, I could not find any crash report any where.

When it happened, I got one of those great little pop ups that said that "The program encountered a problem and has to be shut down. Sorry for any convenience......."

What is this file and is it important?

Should I uninstall and then reinstall the program?

Well, first off, you running the latest batch of hotfixes from Microsoft?

Did you boot with the dongle unplugged?

Any anti-virus installed?

Wireless running at the same time? Or if anything, NOT disabled? You should disable it. Wired networking is OK.

Running music at the same time on the same machine?

When I turn on my laptop, I do not have the dongle plugged in. Once I have the lappy up and running, I plug it in and then start up MyDMX.

I make sure that my wireless is turned off and that any other program is not running.

I do not run music off of the same lappy.

As far as updates from Microsoft, well, I don't really get on line with the lappy so I would have to say is no!

Well, stop plugging the dongle into your lappy. That just sounds disgusting.

Your start-up sequence sounds proper.

At any rate, get yourself online BEHIND a broadband router and get your updates current. That's probably part of your problem right there.

What OS are you using and what are the specs of your laptop: RAM, HD total size(and available space), CPU. That might point us in the right direction.

Are you using any DMX terminators? Any DMX Splitter/repeaters?

I do have most of the updates from Microsoft, well the ones that apply to this laptop. I don't get online with this one, except when I have to.

Yes on the DMX terminator.
No on the DMX splitter/repeaters.

Please keep in mind that I only use this laptop for the lighting program!

When you do get online, are you doing so from behind a broadband router? Or do you just go right from the cable or DSL model right into your laptop?

Can I assume correctly that your light shows aren't super complex and complicated?

Is your XP 32-bit or 64-bit? I'm willing to bet 32-bit, it's much more common.

Your specs seem fine. HD is a little bit small, but for a fixed application computer, it's more than enough.

Were you running on batteries or via AC? What are your power saving settings or did you totally disable those?

I have DSL and when I connect, I get on via wireless network.

I have simple shows.

XP is a 32 bit os.

I was running off AC power.

I have the power options turned off when plugged in and no screen saver of any kind.

Well, I went through and uninstalled the program and then reinstalled it. I hope that reinstalling it that it will fix the problem.
