I am an electrical contractor that has been tasked to do something with a show light. I completely understand standard static ambient lights, but lighting that moves is another thing.
It has been requested that I find a lighting fixture that will cause a "search light" effect within a local museum. I am looking at the ADJ DJ spot LED. Here is what I'm trying to accomplish:

Have a light source that will provide a white circular spot of light like a search light
Have this light source sweep the search light beam along the floor and wall (about 180 degrees. the throw of light will be between 12' and 20', depending on angle.
Have this light track in a repeatable pattern (not random)
Have the ability to design the tracking
Have the fixture "remember" this pattern, hopefully locally

If anyone with experience with the ADJ spot could chime in and let me know if that is the proper fixture for my needs it will be great. I also need to know what I need for additional equipment, memory, programmers, or "stuff". Also ANY other suggestions will be truly appreciated.

Thanks
Bill

Hi Bill and welcome to the forums.

First, you should be looking for fixtures that have what is known as Master/Slave or Standalone mode. Also make sure the fixture has editible scenes, otherwise you won't be able to make a pattern and make it repeat without some sort of DMX controller (although it might be easier if you just got some sort of DMX controller).

Next up, since you are looking for a search light effect, I would recommend a Beam type fixture. This means it projects a very tight beam, more like a search light. If this is out of budget (Beam fixtures tend to be only on more expensive models), then I would look for the fixture with the tightest beam angle. The smaller the degree angle, the smaller the physical diameter of the beam of light will be.

Let us know if this helps and once again welcome to the forums.
