McGyer...bro i have had my velocity for just over 6 months....not a heap of time, but i pound the **** out of it...have had no problems at all. Its not often that i feel like my money's well spent, but dude you seriously can't go wrong! Get a road case once you've chosen your mixer and you'll be giving it the best housing and protection it needs.
the only maintenance i've had to do is change the crossfader once and clean up some of the buttons from oils which come off your skin - pretty much just the play, cue,'in' & 'out' buttons
as far as control over your music...i haven't seen anything that compares or at least beats it(cdj-1000 looks pretty similar in features to me!). Once you get your flash cue points working and the built in sampler skills the possibilities are endless.
The fun keeps going if you have a burner to copy discs...then basically you can do some pretty amazing on-the-fly remixing. There's so much more you can do on the velocity than on vinyl. It won't take long to build up the skills and when you do, you might start to see just how much of a creative life you will get out of the velocity. Without a doubt, the best money i have ever spent on my love for music.
