Hi y'all...new to this forum but I am glad to be here!

I am a mobile DJ and have an American Audio Velocity unit. I love the unit other than the pickiness of the unit to read certain CDR's. Is there a specific type of color CD the laser picks up easier than another. I have had many dual CD players. My best all around unit which reads just about any CD is the N*m*rk CDN-88. It is in fact now the back up for my Velocity. I also own 2 Pro Scratch 2's and I seem to find that it is picky as well? I would assume this to be the case as it is the same as the Velocity only it is a single table top version.

Any thoughts or experiences?

Thanks! Big Grin

You should go with the silver on silver cdr's, same color you find on commercial cd's.
Have you wonder why they are that color, and why there is no problem playing them?
Some things you just can't go cheap on.
If you want quality sometimes you have to pay the extra premiums that comes with what you want.
Hope this helps. As for brand Memorex, Imation comes to mind.
I've had good luck with Sony Audio CD-Rs, and burning at 1x-2x speed. Memorex have been decent too. The biggest thing I found was slowing down the burn speed.
I have Pro-Scratch 2's as well. Yes, they are a little picky, but you wouldn't run 87 octane in your Ferrari, would you? Wink
Good analogy Bill,
BTW, I have heard the same complaints from many different premium players (ie, the CDJ-1000, and S5000's, especially as the players get older. Between dirt, dust, and mis-allignments, eventually any player may have trouble reading CD-R's, or even regular CD's for that matter.

My advice, and this is a personal opinion, and I have never had difficulties.
I only us Mitsui Gold CD-R's
I usually burn at 4x, and never higher than 8x.
Yea, on of my pro scratch 2 units sometimes takes a long time to recognize discs, i hear it go tick-tick tick tick before it finally recognises the disc. This also happens with regular (non-burned) cds.

It also sometimes makes horrible scratchy skipping sounds whilst reading burned cds- these discs play fine on my other pro scratch 2.

Would a new laser head fix this? I open it up and cleaned the lens with a cottan bud and some methlyated spirits, it didn't seem to make a difference.

I would get them serviced. They probably most likely need an allignment. Things get loose after a while especially if you use it mobile. Just like a car , sometimes it just needs an allignment. [/qb]
Where can you get it servced?
