turning the bass up

is it ok to turn your bass up over half way on your mixer?
I never like turning mine up over half cause i am scared i could wreck the speakers.
I have 2 18 inch subs and i would like a bit more bass out of them

That won't be a problem if you give it a little boost, but it sounds to me like your amp may not really be powerful enough for your subs. The only time that giving a little extra bass on your mixer EQ will be a problem, is if you start to see the clip lights start blinking on your amp.
