Hi all.., I just got the dmx operator controller and want to use it for my dmx lights. I have (2) dmx color burst 8's led bars, I want to run them on auto/random/show mode together but slaved as one and save as a scene, etc. Then I also want to do the same thing with 2 jelly fish lights, slaved and 3rd I have 2 new quad phase lights also with there own scene. How do I setup my scenes to do this..? so those lights when they come on will be slaved in pairs, etc. Do I put pair those lights with the same dmx address..? when all my cables are link(daisy chained,) they don't slave separately.

Thanks, Dan

you cannot use master/slave AND dmx on the same line. It doesn't work that way. You need to either set them as master/slave or dmx them. If you DMX them then simply use one address for both fixtures. Say i have two fixtures that use 6 channels. on my console if i wanted them to be individually controlled one address would be at dmx address 1 and the next at dmx address 7. However if you set both of them to the same DMX address then they both will respond to the same command. Make sense?
Welcome to the forums.
Sincerely,
Thanks for getting back to me... I also have another question...? I have a duo and use sequenced backing midi tracks played with Sonar (cakewalk sequencing software) What is the best way to record my show into cakewalk.?? I have the DMX Operator., I know you use a midi keyboard, but unclear how I (cue/record) the scenes, on/off, change scenes, black out, etc... Can you provide any advise. My last NSI MC1616 light controller had a midi in/out and I could just hit record during a song press scene banks, etc... and it would record, the scenes as patches, not notes. So this midi (note) method is new to me.
The DMX Operator lets you record "Scenes." The Midi input lets you select Scene you have recorded. If you want to use Cakewalk to turn the lights on and off, do this: Turn all the lights on with the DMX Operator and record that Scene to location 1. Then turn all the lights off and record that Scene to location 2.

Now, whenever you want to turn the lights on, have Cakewalk send note 00 [See the "Midi Operation" table on page 15 of the manual to learn why "00"] to the DMX Operator [make sure that Sonar is sending the note message on the same channel that the DMX Operator is "listening" on]. To turn the lights off, send note 01.

If you are playing to midi files running on Sonar you can have a lot of fun with this. You can record multiple Scenes with the lights doing something different in each Scene. You can have the lights doing exactly what is appropriate for each part of your song. Brighter on choruses, spotlighting leads, etc. I like to use at least two scenes for each part of fast songs. There is just a little variation between the two Scenes and they can bounce from one Scene to the other on every beat. This adds a lot of punch to the light show.

If you aren't playing along with midi files playing in the background, using Sonar will be a huge complication to no real advantage. Just punch the buttons on the face of the DMX Operator or isolate keys on your keyboard to send the midi signal to the DMX Operator.
By the way:

Jingles is right about how Master/Slave and DMX don't mix. There are exceptions thought, e.g., Chauvet makes some bars that will run in Master/Slave mode with the master being triggered with DMX.

I can't understand why more manufactures don't do what Chauvet did - you can get some effects from Master/Slave that would take hours to program using DMX. For that matter, why don't all Chauvet fixtures that have Master/Slave modes built in have that option - Chauvet obviously knows how to do it.
Hi,

I'm trying to get my DMX obey 70 controller send DMX data via a MIDI trigger. When I hook my keyboard directly to the MIDI input of the obey 70, I'm able to send scene selection from it. But when I hook my DMXC to Cakewalk Sonar I get all sort of results!!!

The MIDI channel is good, the correct note is sent, is there something speci...al that I need to configure in SONAR?

Is there anybody doing that kind of stuff?

Thanks!
