Hey All,

Ok, I've been thinking about getting some intels. I have just your basic lights (Vertigo, a 'Pod, colorbank).
I just saw the ADJ DJ Scan at a great price, too low to print. Smiler

Should I pick a pair of these up? I would just master/slave them, and later on maybe add a DMX controller.

I mostly do small parties, sweet 16's, school dances, etc.

What do you guys think?

put it this way...

If you want a syncronized light show thats looks pretty good and you don't have to mess with, get it, they are perfect...

BUT
if you to program your own shows, use them as a followspot....basically anything more then turning them on or up, pass on these

They are often said to be poor lights but really they aren't that bad. Your client won't care about how expensive or how high quality your light is, only that it looks good....and these can look very good.

I remember several years ago before I even saw these and a DJ had only 1 of them, and I thought it was fantastic so if you get a few, you'll have a pretty nice light show.

4 DJ Scans is def an improvement over Veritgo IMO
I DONT suggest the DJ scans. The internal programs have about 15 scenes (gets old really fast) and the movement is jerky, especially if you try to program slow movement.

My suggestion is to save a little more money and get a scan tron or something along those lines. No offense to any DJ scan owners. I've seen these lights in action and I was not impressed! There are cooler AMDJ , etc. itelligent lights out there.
I bought my first DJ scan, and I got it yesterday. NICE! Sure the X/Y is small, and the motors make big movement, but its an awesome light! But there is a ring around the gobo's that wont go away. Doesnt bother me because you cant see it in fog, or when the light is high up. yay for the DJ Scan!!!
You need to put everything in perspective Trak Beat. The better lights you have the more you can charge per hour, thus meaning you can pay off your rig faster. Its a flip of a coin having a inexpensive setup and not making maximum wages per gig and having an expensive setup and making high dollar wages per gig. Music cannot be enjoyed in pitch black or under the accent of 25w lights. Wink
LOL. Im amazed that you said that. DJing is about the gear now? Amazing! So I could charge $100 for having a Denon CD player, instead of using a Pyle Pro? Neato! Thanks, but no thanks. Kyle my friend, its called PERSONAL PREFERNCE. Just because its now under $150, has jittery motors, and that you dont like it, doesn't mean I cant use it. Its a light. Can't we all just get along? Everyone uses their gear for a reason. If they hated it, they'd sell it. Plain and simple!
Not to mention that most of the people at your show would not know the difference between a DJ Scan and a Ultra Scan because they do not look at lights the same way that you or I do. In my experience most of the people at my shows like a variety of fixtures instead of watching the same lights going all night.
Yep I have agree with Dave and Trakbeat, I never get bookings based solely on what type of intels I have/use. 99% of my customers are more interested in music knowledge, experience and my ability to entertain their guests for the money. In fact some of the best dances I've done are usually the ones done with minimal lighting.

If I was ONLY doing schools then maybe having an Olympic standard lightshow might impress the teachers for a rebooking. For the rest of us who do varying function types, having the most expensive and complicated intel makes absolutely no difference.

Billabong, if you are happy with what the DJ Scans can do for YOU and if the price is right, certainly snap them up, I know I would.

ROQ out.
Thanks everyone. Since I don't have a trailer yet to cart my gear, AND I don't have a truss (because I don't have a trailer), AND based on what I saw...I'm going to hold off and probably get the DJ Scan 250s, when I get a trailer and room for a truss Smiler .
However, it did not stop me from spending that money on something else...
