Certificate iv

I am looking at doing a sound course starting july 26th through a company called juliusmedia.
I rang him the other day and he said if i am going to do certificate iv i wont need to do certificate III before i do certificate IV.
The problem is i dont know much about sound gear and the different types of sound gear.
What i mean by that is i know how to set up a basic sound system without all the things like EQs, compressers etc.
The thing that i am worried about is i will get there to do the course and it might move a bit fast for me but the guy said you dont need to do the other certificates.
Has any one done this course?
The course is in australia.
any help would be appreciated
