You can ususally attribute the "purring" noise to CD-Rs which have sticky labels put on them. If the label isn't exactly centered on the disc or if you have a sticky label just on one side on the disc, the disc will tend to spin off balance causing that cat to purr.

A lot of the cheaper domestic CD players have difficulty reading/playing them, professional decks have a lot more tolerance and will play them but with the "purring" as the result.

Do you still get the noise when playing commercial (pre-recorded) CDs? If you still do but the player continues to function without a hitch I probably wouldn't be too concerned as Skilz suggested, you can expect minor manufacturing anomilies like that. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I believe the Purring noise you are referring too is the motor spinning up without a CD in it upon powering up. I have a PS2 that does this occassionally. It is no cause for alarm, but if it bothers you, you may want to call support so that they can make you feel all warm and fuzzy (ie. ease your concerns).
I think stevie ray is probably right-- just the motor. The only reason I asked is because my other one doesn't do it. But everything does work fine and it only happpens when I first turn the power on-- it has nothing to do with playing a disc. I'm not worried about it, and yes, I did check to make sure there wasn't a kitten caught inside. Big Grin
