It figures, just a soon as I get my lights set up, my amp goes fizzle pop. I need to get a new one, but I'm not sure what to look for.

I'm Looking to power 2 GLi Pro XL 21590
Here's the info off the plate in the back
(2) 15" Subwoofers, (4) Piezo Tweeters
(1) Rectangular Tweeter
Max Power: 1200 Watts
RMS Power: 140 Watts
Impedance: 8 ohms
Efficiency: 95 dB

The old amp was a Peavey, (425 W/4 Ohms; 41.2 V RMS per channel: 550 W/2 Ohms; 33.1 V RMS per channel) Was this underpowering the speakers??

If someone could tell me what I should look for in a new amp, specwise, or a few models I would really greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!!!!!

The amp you mention sounds like a P e a v e y 8.5C. An entry level amp with around 225wpc @ 8^ if memory serves. This amp isn't worth the repair costs, so good idea to look at something else.

Personally, I'd be looking at speakers as well since the ones you mention aren't anything more than marginal home speakers dressed up to look like pro speakers...and for those who like screeching highs. The best improvement you can ever make to your audio system is speakers...period. Anyone who tells you different is feeding you a line of you know what.

I'd first audition speakers then buy an amp capable of properly powering them. Or, you could go the powered speaker route. The AA powered speakers takes care of speakers & amp all in one...and while entry level in the powered speaker realm, they'll flat blow away what you currently run. If you go traditional passive system, American Audio has you covered there as well with their amps. Depending upon what speaker you choose, a V2000/3000/4000plus will work extremely well.

If you simply insist on keeping your current speakers, they have several things going against them. They suffer from very low sensitivity (95db@1W/1M), very low powerhandling (140wrms...and these 2 things alone are a real double whammy) and finally, the piezo drivers...great for making dogs howl, but not so great for musical playback. So, in this case the V2000plus is the perfect match offering 2 times the rms power for great unrestrained dynamics (headroom).

If however you tend to upgrade speakers in the near future, and you should, then you should strongly consider the V3000plus. It's added power means it will match up much better with more professional speakers, and also comes with a subwoofer crossover if you decide to expand down the road.

You should seriously consider this speaker upgrade now though, both you AND your customers will be very happy you did! Smiler
