I purchased a used model on Ebay recently. I see
numerous ones online for sale dirt cheap. Why are
so many DJs getting rid of theirs? I notice that
this unit gets extremely scorching hot within a
few minutes. I see that it has (2) 300 watt bulbs.
Does that make the housing get so hot that it can actually burn you? I also read that this unit needs to cycle on & off for 10 minutes or so.
Not too much mentioned about these features???

I like my Vertigo. It's a nice little fixture, but yeah, with 600-watt draw, it can be quite a pull on the AC.

Keeping the 10-minute cycling in mind, I do have enough fixtures to rotate. I will routinely go between my Sunray III, Mystic and Vertigo, sometimes adding in my Trilogy and Double twist as a pair if I am also using those.

I think ADJ has two versions of most of those fixtures these days. The older versions DO have running cycles(time on followed by time off) while most or many newer traditional technology fixtures have been improved and re-engineered to not have to be cycled. Make sure you know what one you have. I have no way of knowing by looking. I'm just in the practice of cycling so it doesn't matter.

One key issue in regards to resell is that unless it's a high end fixture, these items aren't exactly an "investment item". Lights generally don't hold their value. A pair of Par38's I bought for $30(ADJ) off Musician's Friend are really worthless at resale. This isn't a dig at ADJ by any stretch, it's just that these are common inexpensive fixtures. The Vertigo is no different. It is a very popular fixture and as such, resells for cheap on the used marketplace. Hey, I'm not knocking the vertigo. It's not my favorite, but it's one I like to hang on the truss.

Jingles also brings up a good point with the LED fuxtures with a small fraction of the power draw. The decreased power draw concerns are making me budget to replace MANY of my fixtures.
