Hi All,

I was hoping to get some insight on a problem I am having with one of my X-Move Plus. It has a weird eliptical patern on some of the colors and the some of gobos do not center and sometimes they are half 1 gobo and a bit of another. It happens most of the time but not all the time. It has something to do with alignment of the color wheel and gobos...I think. Has anyone seen this before? I am hoping this is an easy fix so I wont have to pack it up and send it in for warranty repair. What do you think?

Thanks,
Ric

Jingles,

I called service on this issue and they told me to open up the case and look for anything obvious. I did just that and found the gobo wheel to be loose on its motor spindle, so it is not indexed correctly. What is the procedure for re-aligning the gobo wheel? I am hoping I do not have to call back into service for this. Hopefully someone has done this and there are simple easy to follow directions posted somewhere?

Ric
I am only daring to venture an answer, but you should still call Support to get a better answer:

MANY items like this(in many industries) will have a notched gear or motor or spindle that the item will go onto, in which it can only fit a certain way. The idea is a guide element to ensure proper alignment. I am assuming perhaps incorrectly that the gobo wheel can only be put on one way(or perhaps backwards, which would require a lot more work).

Some items will have a reflective or coded area coupled to an optical sensor for alignment, but I don't see ADJ doing a whole lot of that. Sometimes a hole is used instead but again, with some sort of optical sensor. Again, I also don't see ADJ doing that either, as it's kind of expensive.

A lot of these inexpensive fixtures(compared to the high end stuff) is often able to re-align itself after many repairs. Or being moved in transit or bulb changing.

Start by taking Jingle's suggestion, which is what I'd do first myself. Tighten things up and power it up and test real fast.

Really though, if that doesn't work, you're going to want to call Service. Have tools and other goodies nearby for testing. A flashlight is a must as well as a well lit area. A headset on your phone might be advised as well so you can keep your hands available while you work with Support.

Above all: Be patient. Don't rush through this!!! Take your time and check your work twice. If you have to take out screws, I like to tape them to a peice of paper and then mark near the screws where they came from so I can put them back later. I even go as far as to arrange them on the peice of paper sort of like how they came out. Sometimes I have multiple sheets of paper with screws and other parts secured down. In my case, with 2 nosy pug dogs and 3 kids and no secure place to work without being annoyed constantly, this organization has kept me running for quite some time now and I see no need to change it, even when the kids stop being so grabby.
Jingles & Chris,

Yes, Ernie did tell me they would auto calibrate. If so, this was not the case as I have tried it 7-8 times with no luck at all. I have looked for some kind of indexing mark / hole / screw and can find nothing. I have tried to visually line them up, tweek it here and there and nothing has worked. I'll give service a call soon.

Thanks,
Ric
ok. nightraven let me say that I am not part of the ADJ service team and I do not know about any of the inner workings of any of the ADJ fixtures. My main area of support is MY dmx. If you need help with fixtures I can try to have a service rep post on the forums but 99% of the time they will have you call them. As this is the preferred method and quickest way to resolve issues.
So whatever it is that your trying to tell me about a gobo wheel I do not understand. so please give our service team a call. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Post up what the problem was.

Also, just for the heck of it, see if there is one of those "inside the fixture" videos on this one. This might give you a hint as to things to possibly look at. Even so, I'd be on the phone with support.

Also, one last thing:
Is this a NEW fixture? Is it less than 30 days old? If so, just bring it back and exchange it. It will be faster than dealing with a return/repair as it should be able to be done o the spot if you went to a local brick and mortar store. If you bought via mail order or another dealer you trust who may not be local or convenient for you(my prefered dealer is in Souther California, while I'm in northern California, about 300+ miles between us), then it's your call to exchange/return or ship out for repair.

One last thing to try as well:
REMOVE power.(disconnect it from your AC lead or otherwise make sure you have disconnected power). I can't see why ADJ or anyone else would make a lighting fixture that would draw voltage in the OFF position on the switch, but just in case, that should help. Wait 10 minutes, power it up and see if that does anything. I bet it won't make a difference, but it's worth a try.

Either way, it sounds like it's time to box it up and send it in if Support can't talk you through it over the phone.
