Hi Folks,

I am curious as to why the X-Move plus does not offer the color RED? The ad on the website here at ADJ depicts the color RED as available but the manual does not list it and I can tell you that my 2 do not offer that color. They are great little light but really wish I had some red. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Ric

These have to have red or I can't se me buying them either. Thank goodness I'm broke s hell right now and can't buy anything!

I'm sure by the time I have funding for this, this problem, if it's a problem, should be resolved.

8 Elation Opti Tri pars are gonna set me back quite a bit. But, if something happens and I get the deal of the decade, I might see about throwing the extra money at a pair of these.

(I have budget coming for the Opti Tri pars, but it's a waiting game right now)
I just talked to service and they told me that RED is not available. The website does show it as one of the standard colors but it is in error. It can't be retro fitted or anything so if you need red, unfortunately this is not the light for you. I really wish I had know this before I shelled out over a 1K for 2 of them. Any chance I can get a refund to apply to another ADJ light that does have RED?

Ric
Well, that sucks for me. I can't buy this light if it doesn't have red, and that color between the light blue and purple sure looks red to me, at least based on how my video monitors are set up(and not all are calibrated properly, just a couple).

And looking at the image, then looking at the manual, there is a further mis-match. I'm more temped to go by the manual, but the manual's DMX traits also does not list red as an available color.

The graphic to me shows this:
White/open, blue, amber(maybe it's orange), green or dark green, light blue, red, purple, yellow, green(or light green). I could live without two greens, and just choose a lighter green than regular green, in favor of getting a red, that's how it would work for me. I need the blue and light blue for sure. Orange/amber, not so much but I prefer them because they tend to appear to be somewhat light colors. Purple, I have a use for purple.

The manual states:
White
Orange
Blue
Green
Yellow
Pink
Light Blue
Light Green
Light Yellow

I can easily substitute pink for purple. Lose light yellow for amber. Lose either green or light green and add red. Or lose light yellow for red.

I can't get this fixture, as I need red. I have a lot of scenes with blood, so I need red. Plus I work a lot of Asian events, and red is a lucky color(well, for them, not me since they treat me like crap all night and then try to screw me on the payment!).

Could ADJ possibly think about offering FOR A PRICE, an alternate color wheel? ADJ would have to decide on a different standard. Use the same wheel and spacing so it doesn't affect DMX values, but just has different colors. White is a must.

Or, maybe a blank wheel and we can use a heat-resistant glue and gel sheets to make our own gobos? I'm sure there is a notch or something to indicate the 0 position so it can be lined up properly, then the rest is just drop it in and glue. Hell, sell me an empty gobo wheel and approved glue and I already have all that I need to make my own color wheel.

I'm let down on this one, but funds aren't there for it anyways, so no big loss at this point. I'm sure by the time there is one(or I can afford a VIZI LED spot), this will have been addressed.
Chris,

I asked service about a fix and he told me nothing was in the works and there was no way to modify it for red right now. I have sent an email to my vendor asking him if I can return thse 2 and apply the credit to a couple of the VIZI LEDs. We shall see,as I have had these a couple of months now.

Ric
Well, you know what they say, where there's a will there's a way....

I suppose if someone really wanted to modify that hardware, it could be done. I already have ideas, but I don't want to buy the fixture, void the warranty, and go through all the extra steps to get it done via a wide variety of possibilities(including machine shops that could cut a new one).

Hey, I suppose marketting said "these are the hot colors". It seems a few of us disagree. If I ran through the colors and didn't see red, I'd be seeing RED and would unfortunately have to take the fixture back.

I'd also have read the manual ahead of time and if I didn't like what I see there, I'd call support or pre-sales to get clarification.

Then again, maybe I should save up for the VIZI LED's myself. That would resolve some of my issues. That has red, right?
I have not seen what the color wheel looks like in the X Move. Typically automated fixtures use dichroic glass filters to create the colors. The filters are usually either in removable holders or glued to a metal wheel with silicone. You can have custom dicro filters cut to the proper shape and replace existing colors by removing the wheel, taking out one color and replacing it with another. Most companies that manufacture gobos and dicros will do custom cuts. I have had them made by Apollo, Rosco would probably do it as well. You need to contact a dealer for one of these brands.

While making a modification such as this may technically void the warranty, most professional automated manufactures would still honor the warranty even if you swapped out a color, it is not that uncommon of a thing to do.

It is not that complicated, but if you are not comfortable doing the work yourself I recommend contacting a professional lighting company in your area who has a active repair/service department.

Lightbender......
Well, it might be more complicated only from the standpoint that since it is a white LED so perhaps they hve to use different filter materials, but that shouldn't complicate things a lot. If the white LED is putting out a broadband light spectrum that is of a similar nature to a halogen, then it shouldn't be a big deal as far a filter materials.

I think in this case, marketting made a decision that had to be implemented, assuming that red wouldn't be a hot color for this fixture. Personally, I would need a red filter to even consider a light light this. Red, Blue, Green and yellow for sure, pink and light blue are prefered. Orange and amber would be nice as well. A purple and/or a UV-acting filter would be good too.

But my application is more live events and things of that nature. For a DJ-stype application(or party or dance), the lack of red isn't really going to be noticed.
Lightbender,

I am definetly not comfortable tearing into the light for modifications and voiding the warranty. I would much rather return these and go with something else.

Chris,

I did not read the manual before I purchased the lights (Lesson learned). But I did read the entire ad on this ADJ website and it shows red as available. I based my decision off of that incorrect ad/specs. Anyway, I'll let you know what the word is once my vendor gets back to me. He told me he is waiting on a reply from ADJ. Please don't think I am slamming ADJ, as they have been great to me and given top notch support when I have needed it.

Thanks,
Ric
I totally agree. I don't want to crack my lights apart and void my warranty unless I absolutely need to. Then again, I'm not afraid to do many of my own repairs. I also agree that if the wrong fixture is purchased, is to return it ASAP and find something that is "the right fixture".

As far as lesson learned:
I think we all need to get in the the habit of reading the manuals before we buy. I also expect the web site materials(such as what's on there current as of this posting) to be accurate as well. I would, if it was me, if there was a discrepancy, call sales and get a "confirmed" answer.

What you and your vendor arrange is between you and the vendor.

I'm being told based on my needs, the VIZI LED Spot is the right light for me. All I can say is that it appears when one option falls flat, another option opens up, and it's falls within the brands I want to deal with.

I don't see you bashing ADJ at all. I think it's good that we all discuss lights. Just because the X-MOVE LED Plus lacks red, its an important thing for some of us to have red. by discussing it, I don't see it cutting sales that much. What I do see is that it pushes sales torwards not only more expensive, but more feaure-rich fixtures. What it comes down to is more happy purchasers who don't have to waste time with buying the wrong fixture and finding out the hard way. It's not a total win-win all around.

I don't see anything wrong with the X-Move LED Plus in general. Now that I know it doesn't support a feature I need, I know that I need to look at other ADJ and Elation fixtures. I'd rather know this than waste my time even with a purchase and return of a light that won't work right for me.

Right tools for the right job.
Hi All,

Looks like I will be receiving a new color wheel for both units. So now I have the choice of sending the units in to be modified or I can do it myself. This leads me to 2 questions. First, will this void the warranty if I am replacing it myself per ADJ guidance? Second, how difficult is it and I was told I will have to calibrate it after the modification. Is anyone familiar with this action? I am considering doing it myself to avoid the time lost in shipping to be done and save the shipping cost too. Let me know what you thiank and thanks as always!

Ric
