Who has the VMS4.1? Please provide feedback

cant help much here, since i have at home also the vms4. only used the vms4.1 on the BPM show, but this way i couldnt make an a-b test.

both worked as flawless as always for me, but i know that there have been made some changes under the hood, especially regarding the microphone input and the output volume.

The VMS4.1 is available in the USA. Their many many differences, 4times more outputs, new mic circuits, better mousepad, new 2/4 deck software, baked on finish etc.

Tom - I have read and seen all the youtube vids that talk about the improvements, etc. I want to hear from folks the ACTUALLY HAVE the vms4.1 and their opinions on how it's working for them.

OK, here's the deal. I received my new VMS4.1 today and I have it running right now....it sounds 100% better! The newer skins it comes with are a little "too busy' for my tastes....so I am using the default skins for virtual dj (pro). Any questions let me know!

Did you just return it to the retailer, or was it via ADJ somehow?

Groovin, I bought a refurbished one from (retailer) Proaudio star in Nov...although I had no issue with it at all...I read about all the issues so I was able to return mine for store credit and pay the extra $$$ to get the newer one.

been using this unit for a few months now, gotta say im very impressed with all the updates features - mic's sounds crisp and clean now, even with my shure wireless mic, the sound output is incredible,(DSP-DCORE, dont know what it looks like but i imagine it looks like a 'flex-capacitor' from back to the future, cuz it sounds awesome) i have to keep my knob turned down so my neighbors dont call the cops on me, i'm bumping my AA DLS15p speaker (just one) as a monitor -

i think i can finally FULLY transition away from my usual wedding set up of "TORQ & XPONENT" to the VMS4.1 and travel lighter, just this unit and my VMS flip case, and i'm good to go! - im doing tons of video mixing on the unit, i have VDJ PRO 6.1.1 installed ONLY...i dont like 7 pro, using a simple skin, downloaded a few extra echo/LFO plug in's, and all works great! this is the unit to beat for price and performance -bravo to AA for listening to thier customers and giving us some awesome improvements!

He is using VDJ 6.1.1 :-)
So he can´t use 4 Decks. It´s only possible with VDJ 7.x.x :-)

My impression was great until this night.

7 days after unpacking my controller the "Play" button of the right side appears to be almost dead. Suddenly while changing song I press play and dosn´t work, it´s ok, sometimes fails but again, and again... 4 times later I could play the song .

It still works but ONLY if you press quite heavy the center upper zone of the button. If I press the button in the same way that the oher play it just dosn´t work. What a horrible thing, hope that this is just an isolate issue and hope too don´t have problems with the change (it´s from thomann, and i´m from spain).

By the rest for me it´s the perfect controller, not too much expensive and with a lot of features and good taste, i really like it and I will miss my controller .

[Edit] Same problem with left "loop/smart" button. Is smaller so it´s harder to notice but if you make "click" it dosn´t work, you have tu press in the upper zone and then works.

I really hope that it´s not a general issue or factory problem because it would be very dissapointing.

Sucks to hear you are having issues. Seems to be a hardware (perhaps damaged in shipping) problem. You can re-map the play button but that will not fix the issue.

So what are you planning to do?

Yes, this sucks. The package came very well protected so I think that it must be a product defect or maybe the hardware is not the best and the "preasure sensor"? under the button is moving and changing the position.

I wrote to Thomann for a solution (a reemplacement would be the right) and write too ADJ USA to let they know the problem, just in case that it would be the hardware problem and all the units could be affected by this, which could sucks even more.

A quick update about my problem. Yesterday Thomann contact me asking me to return the VMS4.1 with costs payed (quite important) so today I send it again. Now just waiting until they received it and give me a solution (Maybe they repare it, or send me another unit, I don´t know yet).

About ADJ I feel that they don´t put enought care with the users support. I still no recieve answers from ADJ europe (the first mail about the problem with the drivers that I sent a week ago) or ADJ USA (I wrote the saturday?). I used to get answers with 1 or 2 days so I think that if I was a proffesional DJ who needs something ADJ can give me the enought support, but it´s only my opinion ofc and hope that it change with the time.

I will write with news asap,

trying to figure out why i cant seem to get video output to my LCD monitor from my bootcamped mac, using windows 7, VDJ pro 6 and music videos - someone told me at NAMM i need to tweak the video card settings thru osx for it to play properly when in bootcamp mode

still trying to get more info thru virtual dj forum, but it takes forever to get an answer, its not a very active forum unfortunately....

It´s EXTREM active. Everyday i need a long time to read (and answer) all posts there. Thats why i´m almost "work" in german Forum of www.virtualdj-com, but all other are very active too.

Do you know who was demoing video mixing on VMS 4.1 and VDJ this NAMM2012 ? So carefull saying no licent. I've read several times that for video mixing on mac VDJ 6.1 is better than version 7.x
P.S. the Mac section on vdj forum is not that active to be honest

Thank you! But it´s not neccesary now. Yesterday both supports (EU & USA) get in contact with me and give me some ideas about the drivers problem so waiting to get again the VMS4.1 from thomann (I return this two days ago).

The most time i´m "working" in german forum on www.virtualdj.com and can say, there are "specialsts" for Problems with MAC, i´m not one of them... But every question will be answered there very soon. Maybe it´s possible for you to ask in german language there?

I was refering to your answer to dj johnny aftershock who was demoing at NAMM and also one of the invited to the VMS4.1 launch party.
I do have 7.0.5.b and don't know his answer because I don't do video mixing. But latly SBDJ has ported some new video FX for Mac so I might start looking into mixing videos soon.

i say its not active because i posted my problems SEVERAL months ago and got NO response to my questions, not one!!
so either NOBODY on that forum has bootcamped thier mac or im the biggest idiot for not knowing how to get video out to my LCD monitor..
i am a 100% legit VDJ license holder, if you read my past posts i explain in detail why i use 6 & not 7....
just my opinion, but the virtual dj forums kinda suck

actually, I was the one mixing videos at this years NAMM show for the american audio booth, yes i use a macbook pro, with VDJ 6.1.1 - mini dvi-to-vga adaptor into the giant 20 panel elation pro LCD monitor, had a blast! no glicthes whatsoever, the vms4.1 was loud and crisp, so much so that the "sound police" at namm told me to turn it down....TWICE!
every hour i got a 10 minute break for the arkaos grand vj software presentations and we ran the mix straight thru the vms4.1 with no problems...i was very pleased with my unit that day, it was on from 10am to 6pm all day, and no problems, i also used a 3.0 USB mini-hard drive for my music videos, no videos are housed on my mac, VDJ played them nicely with no lag...

Today I received the reemplacement unit of the VMS 4.1 and I don´t have the good news that we all expected.

Again have the same problem, but this time it´s locate in the deck B (right side) instead the left side. The botton appears to be more unresponsive even. I´m not sure if it´s a problem related a very weak circuits or mechanic or whatelse but I think that it´s very unpleasent recieve two units with the same problems.

Already wrote Thomann & AA support but I´m quite dissapointed. I wish I arrive with better news but... Thinking about what to do now.

Today I returned it again to Thomann. No problems at all in the returning during the mails but it´s quite disgusting waste time in open, try, close, move, send, carry, etc... Still not answer from AA America support (wrote the same monday so still soon to complain).

The most annonying thing is that now is the other play button... not the pause or the cue, the play again, so... weird.

Thinking in buy the Traktor S2 o numark N4 instead but I really like this controller, the 4 decks, the analog mixer...it´s a totally shit this problem because for me it would be perfect without.

BOOT CAMP video mixing update:

hi guys after video mixing at MBLV16, i got to talk with one of the main guys from virtual dj, chris, and he walked me thru everything via emails -
here are my macbook pro specs:
osx 10.6.8 snow leapord
3.0.4 boot camp
2.4ghz intel duo core
8gb DDR3 memory
256 vram nvidia geforce 320m
windows 7 ultimate 64 bit installed

so what the main problem was is that i did not have the proper nvidia drivers installed for the windows side of things, once i got the correct driver in, it was a breeze. after a few video sizings and other small tweaks, i now am able to get the video out to my external screen

also i am now using VDJ 7, very easy to map, using the key learn function to get the same song load function i am used to in vdj 6...

i notice the mac is not spiking so hard when transitioning from one video to the next, or when applying video effects

now just need to find out how to record my videos - i was using screenflow to record, i understand you can record your mixes with vdj 7, so it is about that time to figure it out

Sorry for the lack of news about my problems with the controller.

After two returns I got a controller that worked well. The CUE buttons had the same problem but as I used it less than the play button I don´t want to return it more without guaranties.

In my opinion is sad find a product about 400€ with this problems, and not just one unit but all the three that I used and tried had problems with the buttons. Not a big problem (just find the right position to click) but well, it´s a problem. So it mades me doubt about the quality and tests about this model, I don´t know if I got it to an importat night.

I have to say that using the CUE buttons hardly appears to fix the problem and by now the buttons works as smooth as expected but I don´t know for how many time.

Finally, and after all the problems I´m quite satisfied with this controller, and althought I had the chance to change the unit for a traktorS2 or numark I still think that I get the best choice and get the best and versatile unit for 400€.
