Each has it own. Mighty is small with more colors and gobos with separate color and gobo wheels.
The MX-1 is a little bigger but its like half the weight of the Mighty and well, its an import.
Also price, the Mightys MSRP is about $700, the MX-1s MSRP is about $600. you can obviously get them for less. Guitar Center here in Vegas sells the MX-1s for about $450.
The MX-1 is very very popular (if that tells you anything), but it is limited by its total possible combinations.
I have (2) MX-4s and the movement is nice and clean. I have also seen Mightys in demo rooms and at shows and they too are pretty clean moving. And yes you can sync them up to do all sorts of pretty things Smiler or you can have them each do different pretty things Wink
I would have to put the Mighty slightly above the MX-1 just because of its number of gobos and colors. 19 possibilities vs. what, over 400.
But would I buy the Mighty over the MX-1, I would have to actually sit and think on that one. You basically have to decide whats important to you.
Man you dont have a operator: heres proof from your own lighting partner:
DJVaNmAn says:
you run ur spins sound active right?

Captian Kirk 's Heidi says:
ya usually

DJVaNmAn says:
do you have a dmx operator?

Captian Kirk 's Heidi says:
no i don't i just run them sound active without a controller

Theres your proof you lil poser

I own 2 of the mighty scans. I run them with the operator. They are GREAT!!! A little difficult to get programed to exactly what you want, but once u do, their set. Also, when you use the operator like I do, I also run all my par cans with it, you can't really let it run sound sound activated because it changes so fast that you loose some of the positions you have programed. When I run the par cans and the mighty scans together, I put the operator in auto mode and set the timer so that I get all the patterns programed. All in all, their the best lights I have!
my theory on mx1 vs adj mighty scan

ive installed both of these lights in different places ...
mighty scan is better in my opinion for a number of reasons, one separate color and gobo wheel...2nd everybody and their MOMS have mx1s (me included)so go different and you would have a unique show (i own 2 mighty scans as well) Razzer
old school way to control lights = dmx controller, very time consuming

new school = elation pc windows based program (which i just found out about) and the ****** lightjockey

id go with the mighty scans for the separate color and gobo wheel Smiler and an elation computer ran light show Smiler Smiler
I have two mighty's and an operator and i highly reccomend them. I don't even compare Mighty's to mx's. I compare mighty's to robo 812's with the Mighty's still winning. Mighty's are very smooth and with the operator you can program them to do whatever you want. Even move at different speeds. Also while retail price may be a little bit higher the map price is $500 for Mighty's.

Do yourself a favor and go with Mighty Scans!
if i were you id go with the mightys over the mx1s, ****** is stupid and their dmx doesnt work well with other controllers. but if u like the mx1s cuz they are brighter then id say go for the new concept 2's they look awesome especially for the price. I'd say the concepts or the ultra will rival the new mx10 coming out. remember ****** makes their money from large stage and theatrical venues, adj is better for practical purposes, you get alot of pro stuff for a good price!
The new MX-10 is in a whole different class of scanners than what American DJ sells now. It has a 250W discharge lamp, interchangeable rotating prism, and the fasted mirror on the market. It also has IR remote capabilities and motorized focus. Its like they took one of their mac250s, took it off the yoke and stuck an insane fast mirror on it.
It was designed for larger venues and not small hole in the wall clubs, hens the larger aperture and brighter light. Not to mention its $2000 price tag.
I have seen the new MX-10s up close and in operation. I also have seen the new Concept 1 and 2s. the concept 2s are more on par with the MX-4.
about the operator... seeing as you program movements for lights in scenes and run them in chases, is there any way to override a part of your chase to change gobos/colours.. or to strobe with the original movement? I guess what im saying is can you specify to only record movements for your lights while you control the rest (dimmings, colours, gobos) at your whim?
You get what you pay for. I'v used Both ****** and M A R T I N. I love American DJ. I own, and have owned many of there products. And i still planing on buy more. But M A R T I N lights cost more for a reason. If it were me, I would go for the Mighty Scan (which I almost did). I ended up going for the MX-4's, As they have a discharge lamp, and higher quality. The DMX on M A R T I N lights in now the same as all other companies. It your situation, the Mightys whould do what you want without a problem. But if you were puttting them in a club, where they run non stop for 8 hours a day all week, Then the MX series whould be a better choice, as they would last longer.

Well, as the chase is running, I slide the shutter slider to the strode value(s) for the fixture I am using. Then it runs its chase in strobe.
you can overide anything you want during a chase with the operator. simply select the fixtures you want to "overide" and select the faders that control those functions then move the faders where you want them! ALso another tip: if you want to save the overide scene so you can come back to it quickly, but want to switch back to the chase you had it on, press the scanner button for an empty fixture (12 or something) and then when you unselect the fixtures you are overiding it will store that info so if you reselect them later it will come back to the overided scene. of course when you deselect that empty fixture it will erase the scene.
Smiler "Do you know a man called TRUSS"?
The question is does anyone have any good
ideas on strong and safe TRUSS system to hold up to 150 LBS. to 250 LBS. starting to look in to and up grade in my lights and feel the present American Dj Truss leaning to far forward? any input. thx Roll Eyes
Also I saw a while ago a Par can DMX system that
was motorized to move the Par cans side to side, up and down while on the T-bar stand. was that discontind or not? thanks Bigguy
