Hi there,
Just joined the forum to ask a question that I can't seem to get a straight answer to!
Here's the situation. I currently run Traktor Scratch Pro v1.2.7 (upgraded from Traktor LE that I got with my Audio 4 DJ), 2 x Numark Pro TT 2's and a Numark DXM01 USB 2 ch mixer (custom fitted with an innoFADER). I'm now looking to buy a controller which will run up to 4 decks and came across the VMS4. Ideally what I want to do is run 2 virtual decks via the controller and 2 turntables with timecodes. I haven't bought the VMS4 yet because I want to know if this scenario is possible with my current gear (plus the VMS4 of course!)
Also if this is possible can I use the controller as a mixer for all four decks or would I still have to use my DXM01? (It would be great if I could use the VMS4 as a mixer for all 4 decks because I could fit my innoFADER in the controller, happy days!)
Thanks in advance,

As far as i'm aware you could do this.

You'd run your 2 timecoded decks through 2 of the channels in the vms4 as deck 1/a and deck 2/b(the vms4 can be used as a standalone mixer aswell as midi.

You'd also just then use the vms4 for decks 3/c and 4/d.

Also the fader is replaceable in the vms4 too.
The opposite end of England then!

Let us know how you get along with the setup though - sounds really interesting.

I love my vms4. I've dj'd for 10years now and started off vinyl then cds then moved to serato timecode in 07 and loved it.

Finally decided to get a midi controller last year and tried several and didn't like them.

Several of my dj friends have bought the kontrol s4, denon 6000 or pioneer t1 and i still think the features of the vms4 are better.
I haven't bought my vms4 yet!
Saw a few reviews on it and did a bit of research and this looks like a pretty good controller.
.
I've been djing for about 2 years now, mainly turntablism but i love spinning funk, r'n'b and hip hop. I'm also an MC, producer and graphic designer. Got straight into it with TSP 1 and now want to be a bit more creative, mix on the controller decks and scratch with my timecodes!!! May even upgrade to TSP2 and use 2 virtual decks, 1 turntable with timecode and the spare deck as a sampler, could be interesting but i need to get my VMS4 first!!
yes you can!

i use a similar setup: 2x technics 1210 and the vms4 in the middle. i'm using traktor scratch pro, but that doesnt make a real difference from your setup, though. i'm controlling all decks from the vms. and you're right: you still have to choose the NI soundcard for the timecode function.

but: the audio 4 doesnt have enought ins/outs for four decks...
Freshfluke!!! WOW seen a few of your vids on youtube, thanks for replying. So i'd still need an Audio 8 DJ even if I wanted to run only 2 decks via timecode? Can I not use the internal sound card on the VMS to run 2 virtual decks and the Audio 4 to run the analogue decks?

Cheers
nope, traktor does not support multiple soundcards... and if you put the devices together with asio4all (pc) or as aggregated device (mac) you loose the timecode ability.

i know that traktor 2 does have the ability to route the audio of deck c & d through channels 1 & 2 and this way you _could_ somehow trick your way around it, but it pretty much defeats the idea of having a 4-channel mixer... but should be do-able (didnt try though).
yep!

using 2 decks with that combo is no problem at all, the only tricky thing is making use of the other 2 decks with the audio 4.

if i were you, i would check for the long term if you cant sell the audio 4 and buy an second hand audio 8 in exchange, but for the moment it's all good like described.

the only VERY important thing is, that you really buy traktor SCRATCH pro and not the "normal" pro!
DJ Freshfluke,

I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread, but my question is very similar, but with still using VDJ Pro.

Would I have to buy a secondary sound card/interface to put between the vms4 and the computer? or the TTs and the VMS4? I have yet to get my TTs but I am going to get them soon, and I am awaiting a replacement VMS4. But once I get it back I would like to keep the VMS4 as the mixer for the TTs and the virtual decks as well.

To clarify, I would like to use my VMS4 with TTs and timecode with VDJ, and possibly control 4 decks at once.

Is this possible and would I need to get a secondary sound card for this?

AFAIK, in virtual DJ you dont need a specific/certified soundcard, it just needs to be ASIO (which the vms is).

i checked the VDJ website and the manuals regarding timecode and found no different answer, but if i'm wrong, someone who uses VDJ may jump in.
