Hi guys, I just wanted to throw my problem out there since ive been having this problem (and the VMS-4) for about a month now. Ive phoned to my dealer, to ask for support, but I also wanted some help from the forums, because every idea is welcome.

My situation; I'm using Traktor Pro 1.2.5 in combination with the VMS-4. I'm using the VMS-4 mapping from Substraktion off the VMS-4 website, and I've got Windows XP (I'm not happy with that though, if that could be a problem, please tell me and ill step over to W7). I am using the internal sound-card of the VMS-4 and a the headphone channel. The MASTER out is linked to an amplifier, which is linked to my speakers.

First issue I stumpled upon is that I couldn't update my firmware. I've tried to download the Virtual DJ from the American Audio website, and I've installed it, this all works fine. But when I try to update the firmware I get a "timed out" message. I've read the instruction manual, so I know that the VMS-4 shouldn't be configured in ANY sound- or midi related configuration in Windows XP itsself, so I disabled all of that but it still won't update.

The main issue; When I am playing with Traktor, it doesn't really matter for how long (sometimes after 3 minutes, sometimes after 40 minutes, sometimes it doesn't happen at all). My controller just stops working, the lights between the volume faders go on (the left one stays low, the right one goes into the red zone) - when this happens, the sound immediately stops, the controller won't function anymore, and I have to turn it off and wait for Traktor to start playing again, before i can switch it on again. The problem seems to be the same as the problem described in this Youtube video, maybe this also helps:

Ive also sent an e-mail regarding this problem to service@americandj.com - but after 3 days of waiting I also wanted to give the forums a try.

I really hope you guys can help me out, i think you guys can understand that if your controller just flips after 55 minutes of nice mixing, you get a little agitated - especially when you'r trying to figure this out for a whole month.

My dealer advised me to set my latency to about 20ms to 30ms, and keep trying this way. He also advised me to try a shorter USB cable. Is there anything else i can do to get rid of this problem?

Many many thanks if you guys reply with a good idea!

Ok, so i tried setting my latency to about 25ms - this only made things worse. The device started resetting every 3 minutes, and went very instable.

I also tried to disable all of my IN- channels (i set those up for recording). When i did this, i immediately noticed that this might be the problem. Does anyone else have issues regarding recording in Traktor?

Would love to hear from you guys, every feedback is an opportunity to succes..
Ok, so another update;

I'm still playing with the recording turned OFF - the latency set to about 28ms, and the device doesn't seem to fall out at all anymore. Ive also got a tip from my dealer.. I am using a USB to MIDI cable that is about 2/3 meters long, he said that this could be an issue, do you guys know if this is true? I'll buy a new one just in case - the dealer also told me that this might fix the firmware update problem.

I hope you guys can help me out with some new ideas.
My VMS4 does this but only it seems on VDJ, ran with Traktor theres been no such problems.
I refuse to use VDJ for gigs now after having 100 odd people chanting "sack the dj!" last time it happened halfway through the night, and this was my main reason for purchasing Traktor Pro over the latest VDJ.
It was occuring in the same way described here, using a Windows 7 laptop & the supplied USB cable.
