Hello ,

I just bought my VMS4 and I am really satisfied , everything works fine on it , but i have a single problem that i have remarked at the very beggining. The left jog wheel is not working properly : it is doing its job but abruptly , giving the impression that it is being cut or something , so i can`t even do a backspin. The right jog wheel is working fine , continiously and this is how i want my left jog wheel to work.

*remark: the problem is the same on virtual dj and traktor pro ..

I am writing this here because i need to hear some opinions and maybe a solution. I have contacted the support too but i am wating an answer from them.

Best regards,
Sorin

Hello ,

I have checked this already and yes , it is exactly the same. I dont belive it is a mapping problem because i tried many mappings and it is the same. And taking in consideration that this is happening in both softwares ...

What is new now is that there are times when the left jog wheel starts to work fine but then it happens again ...

I don`t have a solution for it right now Frowner

Yes indeed it is not a mapping problem , this was clear from the beggining.

Yes i contacted ADJ support and they haven`t answered me yet. They sent me a pdf with a tutorial to update my Midi Setup using MIDI OX . I followed every task and in the end i couldnt make it because of an error. Anyway , i dont know if this would help me.

Ok . I have MIDI OX. After i see what signals is my jog wheel sending , what should i do ? Because i don`t know how to read them . How this could help my problem ? I need more explanations if possible.

Thank you,
Sorenson
please forward me your original email to support and i will investigate on that case.

re midi ox: you can check if your vms is sending irregular messages. IIRC, the left wheel sends 48+49 when moving and the right one 50+51, but i dont have it in front of me right now.
there is also another message only if you touch the wheel without turning.

check if the messages flow as you move the wheel and if only the said messages are sent. this gives you a hint if the vms is for some reason sending erratic info.
This sounds like an issue with the VMS design. Mine originally came this way.

The job wheels use a photoelectric sensor (actually that might not be the correct term, I am a little rusty) on the jog wheels. These are great in sealed air tight designs but considering what the VSM units are suppose to be doing and where its not a great way to do it.

Your guys' problems may be as simple as dust in the disk inside the vsm unit, or a hair or other foreign object.

You can check by taking the 4 screws out and bringing the jog wheel out of the unit and looking for any issues. If you don't see any thing obvious it wouldn't be a bad idea to alcohol swab the disk before putting ti back in, in case there is actually some dust creating your problem.
