Hi!

I've just bought a Lotus and a Vertigo.

They're awesome, but they're soooooooo bright. Way too bright for what I want to use them for.

Is there a way to get lower power bulbs for them?

Or, should I hack into them and connect the bulbs to a dimmer (and certainly void any warranty)?

Or should perhaps just sell them and buy something less powerful?

What do you guys suggest?

Thanks in advance,

///Leif

Well the AMDJ Quintet uses LC-100 lamps (which are 100 watts). I'm not sure if those could replace the 64514 because they might be a different size, however the voltages do match. I do know that there is not another lamp of lower wattage for the Lotus. If you really wanted to dim it, you could wire a separate power cord to the lamp and put that on a dimmer. However, do not hook up the main power of the Lotus to a dimmer, because it will burn out the internal electronics.
Leif: I too found the Lotus to be a bit too bright for small venues. I think this light was made for bigger rooms. When I do a 200 seating gig let me tell you, it fills the entire hall with swirlling color. Beautiful light. For smaller venues though I found that if I put the Lotus on the floor directly behind me and my equipment and aimed it straight up so it shines on the back wall and towards the ceiling it made an unbelievable backdrop lighting effect. The stage would just explode with color. You could also shine it out into the crowd but have it aimed towards the ceiling, again makes the room explode with color. Try that out and I'm sure you'll see what I mean. As far as the Vertigo, I just used my 2 for the first time last night. I didn't really find it too bright, and I use a lot of lower wattage lights as well like the Roto Pod, Sparkles, Mini Gems, and stuff. I'm going to try putting the 200 watters in to see what that looks like myself, however I found it to be just right, and it was a small hall I did last night. The secret to good lighting is aiming them properly for each venue. Even a 100 watt Saga can be too bright if aimed incorrectly. Myself I don't mind being blinded by the light as Manfred Mann once said, but that's just me, I love my lights. I am always trying new ways of using my lights to accent things in the hall besides just aiming them all on the dance floor. My next aquisition will be the newer H20 light, and this I will use to shine on the ceiling above the dance floor, and on the wall directly behind me. My best accent lighting is the flame bowls. People just love em. I have two that I hang on either side of my T-bar. These babies you can leave going all night, and they also give you a little bit of extra light on stage to help you see what you are doing. See what you dun did now. You got me talking about lights, and I just keep going and going. Sorry for the rambling.
