It works, but with midi and a drum module, you only get as many "notes" as you have pads. With a midi keyboard for example you would have 56-72 "notes". Each note is the number of scene changes you could do. For example, if you have a five piece kit you would be able to have five scenes, but the would change really really fast between the kick and snare almost constantly triggering. Sorry if that doesn't make sense, it is the only way that I can put it...
Or...

You could program a series of scene's and chases into another controller and use the drum pad as a trigger to advance the recorded "show" step by step as needed.

It would require some more programming, and perhaps another controller (show designer perhaps).

Downside is that the show would be preprogrammed per song/setlist, so 'on the fly' may not be too easy to pull off.

Just some thoughts.
