Two VMS 4.1 Different Firmware and One Keeps Shuttnig Down

Hello,

I purchased a VMS 4.1 last year off of E-Bay and had problems with it since day 1. If I connect the power adapter to the unit, the sound coming out of the board sounds HORRIBLE (yes its the stock power adapter) If i plug it in with usb power, it sounds fine.

Lately 2 or 3 times during my gigs, the music would just stop playing, no more sound would come out of the board at all, but virtual DJ still shows the song playing, I have to shut down VDJ and restart it, and it works fine again for a short while.

Anytime I hit the on button for either of the mics, I get a humming sound in the speakers.

When I turn the board on, It shows firmware 5.8 (5 lights on the left, 8 lights on the right)

I just recently purchased a brand new mixer from Amazon, which works FLAWLESS on the same computer I as running the other board on. but when i turn on the new board, it shows firmware 5.11 (5 lights on the left, and 11 lights on the right)

Ive always suspected that the board i bought off of ebay was really a vms4 unit installed in a 4.1 case... it that possible?? and what about the firmware version... i heard there is no update out for the 4.1... so why is the new board showing 5.11 Which version of firmware is everyone else running?

p.s i have tried the old board on another pc with the same results..

Anyone have any ideas whats wrong with the older board, and how can I update the firmware on it to match the new board?
Also, is there anyway to tell if its really a 4.1, or a 4 They look identical on the outside.

please google "ground hum" and how to avoid it.

hmmm... can you provide a picture of the two vms?

I assure you its not ground hum, this is much worse then ground hum, I mean the music is barely understandable, and when i take the same exact power adapter, and same exact setup and plug the new board in, it works perfectly fine, with no issues what so ever, which leads me in the direction of the board having issues, not my setup.

As far as providing pictures, they both look exactly the same, no differences what so ever, all the stickers are the exact same. I don't feel comfortable opening up the new unit, but I can pop open the old unit and take a picture of the boards inside.

no that's not needed. seems really to point to a hardware defect, or maybe it's indeed the firmware. however strange it is, since AFAIK the vms4.1 has not had a (public) fw update.

please contact the ADJ support on this.
