Trackpad issue while using VMS2

When I have my controller on and connected to laptop my trackpad becomes inactive, I cannot move the arrow. However if I plug a mouse in I can move the arrow. I've played around the system pref's and what not but haven't been able to figure it out. I have a Macbook Pro running OS X 10.5.8. Thanks in advance.
