I may have posted this before, but I don't know. It is becoming really urgent now, I am looking to actually do a few "gigs"/Shows here in August I believe it is. But before this I need to upgrade my euipment(Very big step!) I need some suggestions on good equipment that I should buy, no matter who it is from. I already have the controller and dimmer taken care of. Now i need some Light buying suggestions. I plan on buying the American DJ Dura truss setup. atleast 8 Par-56 Cans and all other extra's I don't know about yet. Id really like to get a fog or haze machine and some nice intelligent lights or color scrollers, or something like this, but I don't know where to start, especially since I am not that fimilar with much of it, but would like it to enhance the show. My budget is not quite known, I know i atleast have enough for the cans and stand, and a little extra for "special effects" if you might call it this, Anyways I am open to any and all suggestions, If your suggestion is all Par-cans, then post that, let me know too, what types of colors look best on drummers, guitarists, ect. Thanks everyone!

Question one....
What do you already have, if this is an upgrade?

Question Two....
What Controller do you already have?

You were talking about scanners and color changers. To operate those properly you should have a DMX controller. Also Color changers are normally used in place of Par cans, so you don't necessarily want both. Also what type of functions are you expecting to do?
I currently have two American DJ LTS-6 Stands, and 8 Par-38 Cans. I have an Leprecon LP-612 Console w/ DMX! I will be looking to get 2 or 3 Tree Mount Dimmer Packs from Leprecon to control most of the lights. I would really like some good strong color from Par-cans and then add in some shapes/effects from intelligents, ect. Eventually I may upgrade and switch out some pars for colorscrollers, depends on all the different gigs, ect. I use all of the equipment for.
If your getting the DuraTruss and your doing lighting for bands, then the TracPod 30 is a good investment! If you have 48 spare channels or only 7, its a very versital light, takes about 100watts and no heat. I use it to light the drummer underneath it. I have a few pics:

They mix Red/Green/Blue together to make any color and saves a lot of power in the process. I found that most places we play, your lucky if you get 2 plugs on different circuts. Running those 8 pars (say 300 watts each), and a few intels at 250 each can eat a 15amp plug on its own, then all the amps plugged in adding to it. Im adding OctoPod 80's for my front lights this week. I currently use 2 RGB washes (3 500 watt bulbs). These will take 12 watts each (100 total) and I wont cook the guys on the sides of the stage. Plus I can put any color anywhere, strobe them at rates so fast you can barley tell its flickering. The TracPod 30 is around $575 at the right place, and the octopods are a bit more ($1250ish). Also, DJ Spot 250s work well w/ the duratruss, for $360 you can get a moving head intel. No rotating gobos, but they offer lots of coolness. Also there is a case made to hold 2 of them as well ($170ish). I also run 4 pocket scans. They are almost as bright as the DJ Spot 250s. M@artin makes a Mania-550 or something that is a 150 watt scanner that looks pretty good too. Anyway, my setup takes about 30 minutes to setup. I need a second person only for holding the DJ Spots while I mount them and for cranking it up. I have prewired the truss w/ the DMX/power cables and labeled each cable w/ the fixtures channel number. So I just mount the fixtures, and the plugs are there dangling. Saves a lot of time. Let me know if you have any questions about it.
