Stage Desk 16

Does anybody know why my Midi Buddy or a Art x-15 floorbaord will not work the midi on the Stage Desk 16. I can use my midi keyboard but thats hard to do when you are playing. Is there software for my laptop control the Stage desk 16??. American DJ says that there is a conflict with the midi boards.
