I bought 6 dj Spot 250's in October. I use them, along with a bunch of other lights for my church, which means they have only been used used for apx 2hrs a week max, for a total of 38hrs max to date. I use the MyDMX program to run everything.

So here's my problem...

3 weeks ago one of the lights stopped producing light. It moves fine and you can hear it going through the gobo cycles and such, but NO LIGHT. So I ordered some bulbs and changed it out. NOTHING... After going through and resting it back to factory and some other things suggested by the folks at Guitar Center, still nothing. But now I have another dj Spot 250 doing the same thing?

So my question is... Is this common, or am I just over-looking something? If this is going to be an ongoing problem I don't really want the hassle of exchanging them until the warranty runs out then having to cover the shipping for sending them off for work.

Is there a cause for this? ie. the program I'm using to run them, or something else, or is this a fatal problem with this product kida like Windows Vista.

Thanks for anything, anyone might be able to send my way, I'm in the dark and it seems to be getting darker.

Hi Adam and welcome to the forums.

It sounds like it might be a ballast issue. That means it isn't building up enough voltage to strike the lamps and make an arc.

I would also check the voltage on the outlets you are using the lights. They come in 120v and 220v versions, though I highly doubt you have a 220v version since issues would have started right away. Reason for saying check the voltage is it is possible the wall isn't supplying enough. If it is below say 110v, then you this might be the cause of your issues since the fixtures want to see 120v.

Something else, make sure you aren't striking the fixtures at the same time. Arc fixtures draw the most power when striking lamps, and its not uncommon to have voltage drops when you do. These voltage drops might be preventing the other lamps from striking.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do and once again welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the input, and that is an excellent suggestion but I do have the 110v lamps and voltage was the first thing I thought of with all the cords run everywhere and such. But with that said I have taken these two lights and plugged them directly into a 30amp outlet by themselves and still get nothing? Well movement but no light? Plus all the others (lights including the other 4 250's) in the chain are and continue to work just fine. I was hoping that I messed up a setting or there was some trick I wasn't aware of that would cause/fix this kinda of issue. I though maybe it had to do with the myDMX program at first but even plugging them in by themselves out of the chain I get no light. The light at the end of the tunnel seems to be fading? Any other ideas would be much appreciated!

ps. thanks for the warm welcome!
Yea, those lights wouldn't drain enough from a 30 amp to stop them from striking with only two on the outlet.

You have also tried manually striking the lamps in the menu, correct? If not, try this and see if they kick over. If they don't, listen to see if you can hear the ballast trying to strike them. It will sound like a buzzing noise. If it is trying and failing, I hate to say it but seems like ballast problem. No buzzing at all means something is really wrong with the ballast or power isn't getting to it for some reason.

I had this same issue with a PS575IE. Brand new with only 54 hours on the lamp and it wouldn't strike. I put a spare lamp in it and it struck. Then 50 or so hours on that lamp and the same issue arose again. So I sent it back and had the ballast replaced. I haven't had an issue since *knock on wood* and both lamps work.

And you are more then welcome for the welcome, glad to be of help.
i had the same problem with 1 of my dj spot 250's......we took the cover off the head part and found that 1 of the wires going to the bulb holder had burnt in half.....after a quick cut and splice the head has been working with no problems.....6 months now.....i think the problem is that they were left on just a little too long?
All the more reason to read the manuals. Duty cycles are there for a reason. ADJ has done some improvements in forced ventilation and heat dissapation and other engineering on some fixtures so they can now be re-releaed with the tag "runs all night".

Nice quick fix. I'd have done the same thing myself in a pinch.
