HEY yall, or dogs or whatevers or just lighting nerds, such as my self. Well anywas, me and Dj ugly put up an awsome light show, we almost killed the stands we used. Each stand had 2 intels, 2 effect lights and 2 parcans. The ultimates have a weight limit of 50 pounds, we had about 100. We also had a great fog system, which leads me to my final STORY OF DEATH. Well, the Light show was for a 100 person dance show, yes there were 100 people dancing at some points, from fat to annerexic. The gym floor almost broke in two. But anywas i have had 6 of the girls complain that the fog made them sick. One of the girls has not been to school for the past week. Now ADJ said that it must have just been scycological, but i think those girls are dumb. Fog can make u notiouce but put you on your death bed NO.

Fog is great but you got to be careful - especially if your doing paying gigs. Someone is bound to complain!!! I used to have a guitar player in my band that ALWYAYS complained about the fog. I thought it was downright funny since he was a two pack a day smoker!!!!! People will stand around in a smokey bar all night and then complain when you blast a little fog - go figure!!?? I'm looking into a hazer. More subtle and still shows off the lights. (But there's still nothing like a good BLAST of fog Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin )
I had this probelm for awhile till i found some fixs.

first dont let the people see the fog machine, have it in back hid away.
push the fog to the dance floor useing fans, believe it or not this works even better.

all you want is a very light haze on the floor, almost not even noticeable to the eye only when you see the beams from the lights.
plus with this in mind you save loads of money on fog fluid.

if they dont see it or the machine they are less likely to get sick from it. the girl might have walked past the machine and got a mouthful of the fog and she might of paniced and made herself sick.
fog affects everyone differently, some love it some hate it and some just dont care about it. with all the people on this board working in the enviroment we might not understand the people that never seen it in thier life, or its hard to understand how someone can get so sick but it happens and when your doing a paying gig you have to remember that.

again the best thing is hide the fog machine and use fans, this way people are not as inclined to get so worked up on something thats not really hurting them.

also there are different types of fog fluid out there. there are the higher quality stuff from the big named companies and thier are stuff from no-name companies. american dj fog is pretty good. there also is a lighter fluid and heavy fluid.

just some ideas for you
They always ask me about the "smoke machine".
I tell them that a left the smoke machine at home and am just
using water based steam today.
That's true in a way. I do have a Hollywood style "smoke machine"
at home and the fog IS water based.
They don't seem to get sick when told that.
Having said that, too much heavy fog CAN dry the air,
causing a liitle discomfort when you're breathing hard from dancing.
So if the humidity is low you might go light on the fog or
use a fluid that contains more water.

Smoke from older smoke machines definitely bothers me. I remember being down in SF on business a few days after the law prohibiting smoking in public venues went into effect down there. I went to a club and they had the smoke machines cranked up to compensate, and it physically hurt to breathe in after an hour or so. That lasted for a couple days afterwards. Newer machines don't have that same kind of effect, but seem to trigger an allergic reaction of some sort for me. Plus, they smell nasty, with or without scents.

I found something that does work, though: haze machines. They're much more expensive, but produce a finer haze that hangs longer and doesn't seem to cause as many problems. I run a private club, and some of our members can be _incredibly_ whiny. Things that have worked:

-keeping the machine hidden
-no visible clouds of smoke, just low-level standing haze
-if they ask, telling them about the haze rather than smoke, how different it is, that I can't stand smoke machines myself but this is much better.
Someone posted a comment about a fogger and then a fan to disperse the fog. Couldn't find the post to give them credit.
It sounds like a great idea, and I'll try it this year.
Let's say;if you had your fogger under your table(hidden),and the lights/trussing within 5 feet of the table away. Maybe have one of those fans that angles and have it go through the fan to disperse it into the area you want it to go.
I know its not as efficient as a hazer, but alot of DJ's don't have the money to get their hands on one.
I myself, would love to get one,but the hazer is way more money, and the juice is a bit more as well.

The only time I fog affected me was when I was in my bedroom playing with the Ellipson and seeing how much fog it took for the beams to show no more the fog was very think I could see anything. I was in there for awhile and when I came out of the fog I was a little light headed but thats it. And you should be using about 99% less fog I used in a gig. Smiler So I think it more mental than physical. I've had my fog machine over at my friend's house and fog the whole basement and he and Natalie (Girl from my class) that have asthma pretty good where not bothered at all. The effects very from person to person though but the effects should be very minor if not anything. Now I can see 1 or 2 persons but 6 nope. One probally said they felt weird and the other imagened the same. Women. LOL Smiler Smiler
Freestyle...no offense meant by this but you should really consider using a spell-checker in your future threads. I also had difficulty understanding what point you were trying to make. For instance: 'and seeing how much fog it took for the beams to show no more the fog was very think I could see anything'- uhh...ok. I THINK I know what you mean. Anyway...just a thought. -Ken-
