Hi guys!

I just bought a bunch of American DJ effects, including a Fog Storm 1200, Reflex, Titan 250, Vertigo and a Propeller.

Man, the beams of the Propeller look awesome in the fog!

However.. The Propeller unfortunately smells like an electrical fire.

The unit is brand new, but I noticed that I could open the top without voiding the warranty, so I opened it up, looked around and saw THIS:

That's gotta be it - nothing else is burnt, and the unit works great!

But, what do I do about it? It smells awful Frowner .

Thanks so much for any help.

Now if only the Lotus I ordered would arrive, my collection will be almost complete Smiler .

I have to agree. My lights are as extensive as others out there, but my Reflex, Barrel Flex, Electra and Rover II all to the best of my knowledge had some "electrical burning smell" to them when first used, which fortunately was in my garage days before the event. Even my Mystic, Sunray III and Vertigo did the same thing to a lesser extent.

With any electrical gear I get, I do expect that to happen. All my gear(except lights) go through a 24-hour burn in period. I can't begin to state how valuable this is, as it has caught some "dead" gear on many occasions. At least once a month, I do a full set-up of at least my main mix position and give it a 10-hour session to simulate being used in a show. I want to be one step ahead of problems, not caught up in them come show-time.

So, short term electical stinkiness is OK. If it continues, there's a problem.

Thanks, guys!

I appreciate all the advice, welcoming and support.

Come to think of it, my Fog Storm 1200 smelled like burning paper when I first plugged it in, and that went away quickly.

So, I'm just gonna plug in the propeller and let it burn off that paint Smiler .

Of course, this makes me wonder - why the heck did they paint that piece at the factory in the first place?
