Smoke machines freeze my vms4

I had a problem in a club a few weeks back where my vms4 froze three times I could not figure out why and had to switch to my rmx controller then last Sunday the same thing happened but it happened as I had the smoke machine switch in my hand pumping out some mist I thought that might be the problem and as i used again it froze so the following nite I used the vms4 no with no smoke machine and I had no freezes then tonight I did a private party and the person hosting the party had brought along a smoke machine and guess what 20 minute into the gig with the smoke machine control in my had I pumped the smoke and the vms4 froze so no smoke machines and vms4 combo for me anyone else had this problem ?

Hi in the club it's located under the Dj box I guess 5-7 meters away in the party tonight under the table I was using about 3 meters away it freezes the vdj software not a crash although not much better and it will not control the vdj when this happens do you think it's dime thing to do with a frequency range I'm no expert on electric stuff .

By the way I unplugged the smoke machine tonight and not a problem after that in fact a fantasic gig with the vms4 in full effect

You know I'm not exactly sure. I would say if it is close move it further away and aim the fog away from the table. Maybe try a haze machine? Haze is thinner than fog and can leave less residue. Or even perhaps the computer hooked up to the VMS4 is really sensitive?

Hey:
This might be related to a problem some were having regarding crashes when something was unplugged from the same power bar/conditioner that the VMS4 was plugged into.
A possible cure might be to use one of the turntable gorunds to ground the VMS4 to your power conditioner or other equipment that has a ground wire and is plugged into your power bar/ conditioner.
It never hurts to ground your equipment and usually helps.

voltage spike. we discovered on another post somewhere that if you unplug or plug something in on the same circuit it freezes it sometimes. a haze machine will also cause a voltage spike on the VMS4 because it is suddenly drawing a lot of current

this doesnt happen only to the vms, i have users in the traktor forum that have the same issues (especially with smoke machines giving spikes) using other equipment.

That's amazing you figured that out.
My first crash while using the VMS4 with a smoke machine was halloween night. I lost sound from the VDJ inputs after turning on my smoke machine. Even though it froze my controller I had a DN-s1200 hooked up to the analog channel. SO I switched over to my back up until i figured out the VMS4 had crashed. After my emergency song finished playing I worked the crowd a bit on the mic turned the power off and back on and everything was back to normal.

The fog machine uses alot of watts , sometimes even more then your subs ! The fog machine should always be on a seperate circuit . You can actually drain the power from your system if your running the fog machine off the same power outlet.

this happens to many dif types of equipment when using fog/smoke machines. as stated it should ALWAYS be on a dif circuit. use a long heavy duty ext cord and go far away from where you are for power.
