Hi, Could anyone adivse on a solution to a problem I have in programming somme lights in steps of a scene please.

The scenario is I have 8 scanners flashing on and off in one at a time to the beat of an intro to a tune. Each of these steps has a hold time 0f 00:00:54.

At step #26 I want 2 moving heads to come on and start to move upwards (as well as the scanners above to continue doing their thing!).

The upward movement of the heads needs to take 4.2 secs to reach its final point (dmx Start #0 - finish #75) after which the tune goes into its main part.

If it was a single step for the moving head it would be a simple fade of 4.2 seconds but this cannot be done due to the scanners flashing and these steps don't have a fade time.

Is there anyway to do this - if it makes sense to you that is !

Many thanks

MyDMX is not ideal for this. You'd have to calculate your start and stop times, and then "overlay your start and stop coordinates and then reverse engineer that into the various steps between this A and B. It's a pain in the butt. It can be done, it's just not easy and it requires loads of work.

Ideally, it sounds like you need CompuShow, which with or without timecode, can sync to a source. I use it all the time. Awesome.

The MyDMX, you need to think simpler because it's snapshot based.
Hi Chris - thanks for your reply and advice, which I take on board and understand. I have looked at CompuShow before so maybe nows the time to act on it !

Although just for inforamtion in case its helps others, I have managed a work around roughly based on your reply - basically I increased the upward movement on the heads in segments on each step and swapped the scanners hold time to a fade time and it actully works perfectly albeit the scanners fade in rather than flash but to be honest it looks better anyway so all is good.

This effect is only for 4 seconds and took about 40 minutes to 'program' so anything more complex would be a nightmare which as you say is where CompuShow would be a great asset !

Thanks again
Another thing you can do paul is to set the actual shutter channel to a level that has it flash at that interval (one step) then you can move the mirrors any way you want independent to what the shutter speed is at.... If you can get it to step strobe in the speed of the beat, you can get the fader to get the shutter to strobe at that beat...just will take a little fine tuning...

of course, like Chris said, Compu is a lot better at doing those kinds of looks....but it can be done would love to see a video of it...sounds like you are having some fun
