is there anyway besides purchasing a controller to make it so there is only a spot instead of having the designs change between star etc....without ruining the warranty of course

Hmmm, I dont believe so. Although if all you wanted was just a spot maybe a 250 watt color changer is a better option for ya. Just a thought. Welcome to the forum!
Try disconnecting the gobo wheel from the motor. That way it wont move when the fixture is on.
or disconnect the wires running to the gobo motor from the pcb-primary control board.
great suggestions, I have never opened these guys up is the gobo wheel or wires easily accesible or would touching those ruin the warranties?
yes easy access however it will certainly ruin your warranty
