Sample Rate Issue in Ableton Live

I'm having quite a few problems with the VMS4 inside of Ableton, but the foremost problem is that fact that I have to have Live using a 48000hz sample rate to get the correct pitch on all of my tracks. The tracks themselves are 44.1

48000 is an unnecessary use of CPU for me and all of my plugins are running at 44.1, can anyone tell me why everything is pitched incorrectly at 44.1?

i tried hooking up another sound card and it ran fine.

on an additional note, is there simply a way to change the hardware to operate at 44.1? it seems like the hardware itself is set to the incorrect sample rate.

i dont know how it is done in ableton, but i know that i can change the sample rate for the vms in traktors preferences... and i know this pitch issue from traktor, when the sample rate of the soundcard doesnt match traktor.

what options do you have in ableton (sorry, not familiar with it)?
