- Does anybody have an opinion on the Reflex fixture? I love them but they seem rather weak at 50w.

Tell me your thoughts on this light! I was thinking about grabbing a pair for my basement disco. Seems like an outrageously inexpensive scanning effect. But is it effective?

I saw the post about it and the electra from sometime last year, but maybe it's in more circulation now.

Curious!

Gotcha. Have 2 700watt foggers kicking around in the room already. No biggie.

It's not the only light. I have an eight laser system with a strobe set and controllers, etc etc..

I just didn't want to dip big money on Intells for the home Disco. Anything like that will be a business expense later on. Just wanted a fun cheap look.

Thanx. Smiler
This light strikes me as two Electras.

I almost bought the overstock electra one, but then i decided on the Rover (original), just because it gave me more room coverage.

Reflex will do great for you.

ADJ's fixtures will give you tons of bang for your buck.

And you mentioned that the Reflex seems weak...
The rover is only about 15 watts.

Good luck.
I've got a mishmash of all red right now.

2 x LASER Widow
8 x low power laser modules. 6 of these are on a 4 channel chaser box. Makes for a great inexpensive effect. The other 2 are pointed permanently (sp?) at my mirror ball.

The low power ones are so super tiny but seem to have more output than a standard "pet toy" laser. I wouldn't suggest using them in any room that has a lot of light, but if the lights go out they look great. Don't forget fog though.

They are the ones you can buy at the local fish store for an aquarium. I found mine for about $15 each at the local pet store.

The whole thing is one large ghetto system. Scrounged for the fun of scrounging.

Whew.
Good God no.
Don't get me wrong they are a great light for brightness, coverage, etc....BUT.

EVERY cheesy, seedy, half-baked bar has these things. To me they lack interest, and appear (generally) to be a "cop-out" on real lighting design.

Please don't flame me, since this is only my opinion...but no. I won't buy a vertigo.

I agree Dilate-
I wont buy anything not sound active or linkable, I just find it a waste of time. I believe lighting isn't something that should just be "wung" out there, and I never have. Anytime I buy something I think in advance . . . Dimmer pack compatible, DMX compatible, coordinates with more of its own kind, ect. Don't get me wrong effect lighting is necessary, but you also have to think about where you might end up in say 3 or 4 years (huge gigs with complete DMX programmed shows).
I also agree, but I'm still in the "learning" phase, and this is a steep learning curve.

I had to jump in with both feet and buy big, around $1200 worth. An LS50T-type system(Sorry, not ADJ, wasn't an available option) to hang the lights. OK, easy. then what lights to pick... Par38's(4) to cover stage, an Electra and a Sunray III. But, I need to control them from 100 cable feet away(my audio snake). Enter the DMX Controller and a Dimmer Pack. Expanded recently, needed a second dimmer pack and learning I should be using relay/switcher packs.

Right now I want to add a second centerpiece and some more effects lighting, which was why I was reading this thread. I was thinking of adding a Reflex to add more to the Electra, and then a Rover II and a Barrel Flex. I figure by planning ahead, I can use the Rover II and Electra(might get the II) I can kind of low-end bring up some stuff for the floor. Knock those out and bring up the Reflex II or the Barrel Flex. I should be able to mix and match between these 4 to get what I might be looking for.

As far as planning ahead, well, my shows are fairly simple so my experience doesn't tell me yet to think about linkable and intelligent lights are just not a wise purchase yet. Sound active seems to be a good idea and is usually something I look for.

Right now my audience is pleased with my sound, which is priority anyways. They say they like my lights, but I want more and I know they will like it. My next round of upgrades will be 2 more Par38's, maybe a Mystic to act as a centerpiece, a Reflex, a Barrel Flex and a Rover II. Might add an Electra II and Ebay off the Electra. Lower power consumption on the Electra, Rover II, Reflex and Barrel Roll sure do help when you've only got a 15-amp circuit and a fog machine sucks up 700 watts right off the top, and 8 Par38's take up another 1200, well, that's 1900 watts right there, of 1800 total watts realistically available. I gotta start sharing some of my audio circuits with the lighting to make things happen.
